What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Counselor position at Roanoke College?
Roanoke College is a nationally ranked private college located in Salem, Virginia. Founded in 1842, Roanoke College is one of the oldest colleges in the nation and prides itself in providing rigorous academics and a strong sense of community among its students and alumni. The Staff Counselor will serve as a resource for our student body, providing direct counseling services, crisis intervention, and community education on a wide range of topics. This is a 10 month position with full benefits, running August to May. A preferred candidate has been identified for this vacancy.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive counseling services to Roanoke College students
- Conduct crises assessment, stabilization and referral as needed
- Engage in efforts to prevent and intervene in mental health emergencies
- Engage in professional development activities related to improving services and advocating for clients
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of service delivery
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Counseling or related field of study
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or eligibility for licensure in Virginia
- Experience with a range of counseling specialties, including but not limited to addiction, LGBTQIA, crisis and trauma, etc.
- Experience providing counseling services in a college or university setting
- Strong understanding of scope of practice and knowledge of ethical and legal regulations in counseling
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
