Chief Estimator

The Chief Estimators duties include but are not limited to: ·      Responsible for the organization of the estimating department to assure that proper procedures are in place to allow a smooth estimating and bidding process. ·      Managing the estimating staff including work assignments, continuing education and performance and wage reviews. ·      Reviewing project opportunities and assisting management in making strategic decisions on the pursuit of bids and proposals. ·      Guiding staff and reviewing construction documents, potentially visiting project sites and preparing accurate quantity takeoffs for estimates. ·      Guiding staff and preparing scope sheets for self-performed as well as subcontracted work. ·      Guiding staff and submitting Requests for Information (RFI’s) in a timely manner to design and construction teams during bidding and occasionally during construction. ·      Sourcing soliciting and qualifying subcontractor and material suppliers and developing and maintaining a database of these experience in subcontractors suppliers for various trades and scopes of work. ·      Guiding staff and assisting the Bid Coordinator in the preparation of proposals as needed; supplying sub-contractor information, quantities, product data, or other information as required by specifications for the bid proposal submittal.  ·      Providing value engineering options for bid proposals and active jobs.  ·      Assisting in scope review during estimating and contract negotiation processes.  ·      Guiding staff and working with Project Management team to assist in the material buy-out and preparation of subcontractor work orders for awarded jobs.  ·      Guiding staff and assisting Project Managers and Contract Administrator with preparing the Schedule of Values, submittals, and accounting system budgets for awarded projects.  ·      Preparing thorough documentation for project hand-off to Project Managers/Operations Department on awarded/contracted jobs.  ·      Assist the Project Management team in accurately pricing requested/necessary change orders on awarded projects throughout project construction.  ·      Assisting in the evaluation of bid vs performed costs and in the preparation and review of historical cost data as feedback for future estimating. ·      Helping develop and manage relationships with key subcontractors, vendors and suppliers.
