What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Robert Half?
The Controller is responsible for all areas relating to financial and manufacturing financial reporting (material costing, throughput costing, etc.). This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate inventory and timely financial statements. The Controller supervises staff finance staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including Epicor reporting, general ledger preparation, financial reporting, yearend audit preparation, inventory and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Controller will have contact with company attorneys and the firm’s General Manager which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
Ensures the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
Oversee and complete all daily banking transactions and requirements.
Ensures the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions.
Ensures the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
Support budget and forecasting activities with department staff and sales, including a 13 week rolling cash flow report updated weekly.
Collaborates with upper management to support overall department goals and objectives.
Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
Responds to inquiries from the Governmental Agencies (IRS, State of MI, etc.) and managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
Ensures a clean and timely yearend audit.
Supervises the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
Assists in development and implementation of Epicor and new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
Provides training to new and existing staff as needed.
Handles personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
Work, monitor and advise department staff to establish yearly goals and objective to ensure the progression and enhancement of their professional development.
Supports upper management with special projects and workflow process improvements.
Lead in company implementation of Epicor and Epicor reporting through proper workflow mapping and cost analysis.
Monitoring and maintaining project number assignments by allocating or tracking total project costs for: labor, raw material, purchased parts, engineering, etc.
Requirements
- Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
- CPA or MBA preferred
- Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
- Demonstrated ability in exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills
- Expertise in cash flow management
- Demonstrated knowledge of Bank Account Reconciliation
- Comprehensive knowledge of budget forecasting
- Adeptness in general ledger
- Proficiency in forecasting
- Month end closings experience highly desired
- Foundational knowledge in Monthly Statements
- Practical knowledge of process mapping
- General familiarity with Epicor Erp
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent
- 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
- Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
- Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
- Excellent written, verbal and social communication skills
Salary : $90,000 - $115,000
