The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, handles the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluates accounting and internal control systems, and leads departmental staff. What you get to do every single day
- Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
- Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
- Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required
- Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection
- Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners
- Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations
- Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
- Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
- Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
- Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation
- Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis
Requirements
- Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
- Experience with Fixed Asset Accounting
- Proven knowledge of financial statement preparation
- Comprehensive knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP)
- Accounts Receivable (AR) experience required
- Well-founded grasp of Annual External Audit
- Practical knowledge of cash flow management
- Strong familiarity with month end closings
- General ledger experience
- General familiarity with US GAAP
- 3 years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
- Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
- Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
- Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued
- CPA/MBA preferred but not required
- High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills
- Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
