Our client, a rapidly growing consulting firm specializing in compliance and revenue optimization in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, seeks a junior controller to join their growing team and take charge of the internal accounting function and grow with the firm.
The successful junior controller will perform the following duties:
Convert their cash accounting process to accrual-based accounting for the books.
Handle the books, month-end close, year-end financial statements, bank and account reconciliations.
Financial and data analysis to help the partners understand where they are making the most money project-wise.
Billing/invoicing in the professional services space – all kinds (project based, hourly, cost-plus expenses etc.)
Assist partners in driving operations from the financial perspective.
Major responsibilities
- Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations
- Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed
- Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly
- Complete tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
- Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time
- Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
- Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
- Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
- Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
- Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports
Requirements
The successful junior controller will possess the following qualifications:
- 5 years of accounting experience in the professional services industry.
- Degree in Accounting
- Public/private mix
- CPA
- Senior accountants or accounting managers looking for the next step may work!
- Strong ERP skills and solid intermediate Excel skills
- Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- General ledger experience
- Foundational knowledge in Microsoft Excel
- Analyze Financial Statements experience
- Annual Financial Reporting experience required
- Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
- Vow to meet business deadlines
- Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
- Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
- Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus
- Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
- Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
- Exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills
Salary : $90,000 - $125,000
