Description Robert Half is looking for an accomplished, motivated Staff Accountant for a permanent position within a prestigious Retail - Food Store company. In this role, the Staff Accountant is in charge of preparing journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance and general ledger reconciliation. Throughout the monthly close, you will also be responsible for various aspects of internal reporting. You will lend your skills to developing and implementing accounting policies. In addition, you will take part in compliance, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and look over schedules for the reporting processes. This intricate position is involved in the production of Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. Key responsibilities
- Assemble journal entries and thorough account reconciliations that include, but are not limited to, cash, prepaid expenses, and payroll
- Compose analyses for income statements and monthly balance sheets for management reporting
- Survey and organize various financial data, reporting it in a useful and understandable manner
- Regularly maintain and reconcile journal entries
- Organize schedules for monthly payments and capital lease
- In-depth experience with month end balance sheet account reconciliations
- Manage reconciliation, depreciation, and fixed asset ledgers
- Partake in a variety of department-wide initiatives
- Handle intercompany transactions, billings, and reconciliation
- Contribute to the implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
- Upon request, take part in special projects and impromptu reporting
- Produce journal entries and perform the month end close under minimal supervision
- Support the month end, quarter end and year end closing process by preparing monthly financial close workbooks Requirements - BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent
- Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
- Skilled with ERP systems
- Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Bank reconciliations experience
- Well-founded grasp of US GAAP
- Experience with month end closings
- Knowledge of journal entries
- Budgeting experience preferred
- Proven knowledge of cost accounting
- General ledger experience
- Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes
- Spreadsheet and database capabilities
- Competent with spreadsheets and databases
- 2 years of recent and relevant accounting experience
- Excellent attention to detail
- Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
