What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Writer position at Robert Half?
The Technical Writer is responsible for writing, reviewing and editing technical documents, which includes, but is not limited to: manufacturing work instructions, product documentation, user manuals, marketing studies, and more. The Technical Writer will interface with quality, production, engineering, and applications personnel to understand the technical material and then, using various modern software tools, accurately and concisely document the subject matter. Significant hands-on training, templates, and existing material will be provided.
The Technical Writer's duties and responsibilities will include: • Documenting, reviewing and editing manufacturing work instructions and operating procedures using web-based WYSIWYG editing tools and internal software • Photographing and annotating documents to highlight areas of focus • Working between production and engineering teams to ensure proper communication of changes and revisions • Writing and reviewing scripts and storyboards for web-based technical video content • Documenting new product features and functions for user manuals, datasheets and marketing collateral • Creating, organizing, and revising product user manuals in Sphinx using reStructuredText • Assisting applications engineers to author key applications, customer case studies and knowledge base articles • Creating standard work instructions to aid world-wide service centers and customers to repair products • Maintaining internal production notices and scheduled maintenance guides/binders for various internal manufacturing machinery
Education and Experience • Minimum 2-year technical degree; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university preferred • Minimum 1-year demonstrated experience with technical documentation or technical subject-matter • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills • Excellent computer skills, with the ability to quickly learn new, modern software tools in-depth • Strong organizational skills with exceptional time management • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Excellent professionalism • Effective verbal and written communications (English) • efficient, success driven, and motivational disposition
