Technical Writer

Robert Half's client seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Design Accessibility Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that our digital documents and presentations meet the necessary accessibility standards and comply with 508 guidelines.

Responsibilities:

• Review and evaluate digital documents, including InDesign layouts, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations, for compliance with accessibility standards and 508 guidelines.
• Identify potential accessibility issues and provide recommendations for remediation.
• Collaborate with content creators, designers, and developers to implement accessibility best practices from the early stages of document creation.
• Conduct thorough accessibility testing using assistive technologies and automated tools.
• Create accessible templates and style guides for use across the organization.
• Stay up to date with the latest accessibility standards, guidelines, and best practices.
• Train and educate staff on accessibility principles and techniques.
• Provide guidance and support to content creators and designers on creating accessible documents and presentations.
• Assist in developing and implementing accessibility policies and procedures.

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Science, Human-Computer Interaction) or equivalent work experience.
• Proven experience in ensuring accessibility compliance for digital documents and presentations, particularly in InDesign, Word, and PowerPoint.
• In-depth knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines, including WCAG 2.1 and Section 508.
• Familiarity with assistive technologies and their usage for accessibility testing.
• Proficiency in using accessibility evaluation tools, such as screen readers, color contrast analyzers, and document accessibility checkers.
• Strong understanding of typography, layout, and design principles.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Relevant certifications in accessibility, such as CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies), are a plus.
• Experience with other design and publishing tools, such as Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, or Illustrator, is desirable.
