What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chapter Lead, Software Engineering Ops position at Roche?
As a Head of Software and Algorithm Engineering Operations, you lead the implementation of technical software project management best practices across Roche Diagnostics Solutions Computational Science and Informatics teams. You also partner with a distributed, global software and algo development organization to define and build a world class, agile sw engineering project management and resource planning/utilization framework for software and algo development projects for clinical grade diagnostics healthcare products.
Essential Functions:
Work with limited direction to drive successful delivery of software projects, implementing world-class, agile software project management best practices in a fast-paced environment
Participate as a key member of the project leadership team working directly w/ the business/ commercial teams to help shape the technical plans to deliver products based on the customer/ user requirement
Initiate, develop, and implement a capacity planning and resource/skill management framework/system for a global software engineering workforce
Work in collaboration with SW engineering, product management, bioinformatics/data science and other cross-functional teams to align on use of best practices for resource utilization and engineering project management, and drive adoption of operational processes
Develop project risk management processes and key performance indicators/ metrics to methodically help software project teams identify and mitigate issues, in order to meet project schedules and milestones
Communicate effectively and proactively with project teams re: project status, updated plans, timelines, action items, and impact to project budgets
Maintain effective communication with the engineering, quality & regulatory, operations and executive leaders on product risks, quality status and progress
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) Science or Business
10- 15 years' experience in software project management, release management, tool/ software selection and implementation, and global software program management
Experience with agile/lean development methodologies and software development lifecycle management
Experience with and knowledge of high transactional systems processing petabytes of data, a plus
Experience in Design Control for regulated products (e.g. US-IVD) and knowledge of applicable regulations (e.g. ISO13485), a plus
Certifications:
Project Management certifications desirable (e.g.: PMP, PgMP, PMI-ACP, CMMI, PSP/TSP)
Agile Software development certifications desirable (e.g.: Scaled Agile Framework, Scrum, etc)
General Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills a must. Demonstrated ability to work well with senior leadership
Ability to work as part of a team, yet work independently on complex problems
Logical approach to problem solving and excellent eye for detail.
Self-motivated with keen ability to multi-task and manage multiple project deliverables
Energetic and enthusiastic approach to technology, personal management and building customer relationships
Willingness to travel occasionally
