Roche Diagnostics acquired Stratos Genomics (SBX Nanopore Sequencing) in 2020 for its novel Sequencing by eXpansion (SBX™) technology. SBX™ uses unique applications from chemistry, biochemistry, electrochemistry, and protein engineering to sequence DNA by nanopore in rapid time with high accuracy and low cost. The successful candidate will join the SBX Detection
Sequencing department to further develop sequencing technology while guiding a team of direct reports. The Sequencing team is devoted to developing our high throughput, low-cost DNA sequencing approach into an industry disrupting product that will facilitate the care that patients need. We are looking for a motivated managing scientist to grow and lead a team of researchers striving towards elevating performance of our complex sequencing system. Responsibilities:
- After mastering execution of our current work processes and established SOPs, continue to advance research and development efforts on our multifaceted nanopore-based sequencing platform.
- Use technical and theoretical understanding to propose detailed plans for executing high quality and complex laboratory experiments while keeping processes well organized and documented.
- Communicate actively and effectively with supervisor on project status, significant findings, critical problem areas, and pathways forward.
- Manage, mentor, and train direct reports to comply with expectations while fostering an environment that develops new and existing skills to support departmental goals.
- Support management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner. Embrace priorities and responsibilities set forth by management.
- Collaboratively work with manager and colleagues to explore alternative approaches to solve problems and find solutions.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data using various data analysis software (e.g., Excel, Python) and/or applying quantitative
- Use technical writing/presentation skills to produce comprehensive & concise reports/documents in a timely manner. When needed, effectively present findings to team members and senior management.
- Require minimal guidance to manage tasks and work time responsibly. Take personal accountability to deliver on assigned tasks promptly. Independently manage own work flow.
- Maintain electronic lab notebook documentation. Ensure that all experimental methods and results are recorded timely, accurately, consistently, and according to established formats.
- Participate in routine lab maintenance, lab safety, ISO, and QSR implementation.
- Maintain performance of and troubleshoot issues encountered while working on various instruments.
- Maintain clean and organized personal and communal lab spaces.
- Perform work according to established internal safety guidelines and procedures, and as specified by appropriate external regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA). Make recommendations and act as appropriate to keep the lab a safe environment for all team members, including regular housekeeping tasks.
- Adhere to Roche Diagnostics Seattle policies.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred: Doctorate, Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Molecular
biology, Protein Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry
or related field, or equivalent combination of education and
work-experience.
Experience: 5 years Related experience
