The Department of Packaging and Graphic Media Science (PGMS) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The PGMS department is seeking a dynamic individual who has a demonstrated record of excellence in their academic and/or industry experience. This should include a documented record of scholarship, leadership, team building, and management. The individual should have an appreciation for the range of disciplines related to the fields of packaging and printing sciences and the missions of teaching, scholarship, and service. Candidates must meet the requirements for tenure at the rank of Professor in the Department of Packaging and Graphic Media Science. Reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Engineering Technology and interacting with leadership of other units on campus, the department chair serves as the principal representative of the PGMS Department with authority and responsibility for administrative decisions. Key responsibilities of the Department Chair include strategically leading the academic department in teaching, research/scholarship, service, and curriculum innovation.
The Department of Packaging and Graphic Media Science (PGMS) is a recent merger of two departments: Packaging Science and Graphic Media Science and Technology. With a rich history and strong alumni support, the Department of Packaging and Graphic Media Science has a unique opportunity to build upon the traditions of each program independently, while offering new and unique learning opportunities built on the synergies afforded by academic and industry partnerships. With the recent creation of the Hammer Family Packaging and Graphic Media Center, this new department has the potential to advance research and application in the structural and decorative side of packaging and other graphic media processes. Department/College Description
The College of Engineering Technology (CET) is one of RITs nine colleges, which enrolls approximately 12% percent of the universitys students. PGMS faculty engage students in a blend of project-based and research-oriented educational activities in two master-of-science degrees and two bachelor-of-science degree programs. PGMS students benefit from the departments flexible and innovative instructional delivery that features world-class laboratories, cross-disciplinary education, collaborative activities, and industrial experience through a required cooperative education program. The PGMS department features state-of-the-art laboratories in printing technology; color management; substrates, inks and coatings development and testing; structural design; graphic media; and logistics testing.
Required Minimum Qualifications

Earned PhD. in Packaging Science or Print/Graphic Media Science (or related disciplines); or an earned Ph.D. coupled with a masters degree of relevance to the department.

Approximately ten years of professional experience in one or more of the following: packaging science, printing/graphic media, applied science/engineering technology, STEM education teaching and scholarly pursuits.

A record of sustained and current scholarly activity such as funded research and peer-reviewed journal publications related to the departments fields of expertise and foci.

Demonstrated administrative and management experience: leading and managing an organizational unit including budget oversight, and human resource problem-solving

Demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or training in the departments fields of expertise.

Demonstrated Industry involvement in packaging or printing/graphic media, such as association leadership, standards committees, and/or conference participation.

Demonstrated evidence of supporting the Universitys continued commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
