Detailed Job Description
Responsibilities include:
-
Project Management: maintains publication schedules, communicates with all parties involved in publishing projects including authors, editors, photographers, designers, researchers, peer reviewers, text and image rights holders, and other external contractors. Consults and is liaison with RIT Legal department on contracts and permission rights issues.

Editorial Supervision: responsible for, but not limited to, communication with authors and prospective authors; overseeing editorial and peer review processes, including review of copyedited and designed text, final manuscript proof approval; negotiating and managing author and editorial services vendor contracts (copyeditors, proofers, indexers, designers); oversees digital and online journal content to ensure accuracy; with Director, seeks and encourages title acquisition.

Marketing: performs market research for publications; writes and edits marketing content including press releases; supervises marketing materials' distribution; writes and edits content for the Press's online and print catalog; contributes to website content; works with Press staff at such (internal and external) promotional events as book launches and book sales events; occasional travel for professional conferences and events.

Administrative: primary liaison with Library of Congress and U.S. Copyright Office; prepares and submits CIP and copyright data in a timely manner; upon book publication, sends required copies; assigns and maintains ISBN log and purchases through Bowker; maintains accuracy with print and digital publications; maintains all editorial and production files (print and digital) for all published works; maintains and tracks publication budgets with the Press's Business Manager.

Department/College Description
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
Two years of experience managing print and digital editorial processes from receipt and editorial review to supervision of manuscripts and through production processes, including editing, file preparation, author relationships, rights and contracts.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS-
Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative communication skills, adaptability and professionalism, extraordinary attention to detail, ability to work independently, the capacity to multi-task and manage (receive, organize, and track) titles with varying levels of complexity and time sensitivity.

Ability to work with authors to pursue substantive edits.

Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and schedule workflow management among freelancers; supervise and proof freelance copyediting and indexing as well as interim versions of projects and confirm all final changes are applied prior to production.

Working familiarity with The Chicago Style Manual.

Experienced Microsoft Office Suite software skills and Acrobat Creative Cloud.
Preferred:

Advanced degree in such disciplines as Communication, Journalism, English, Publishing.
