    WORK DAY/YEAR: Full-time, 8 hours per day, 235 days; 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    2023-2024 SALARY RANGE: ROPE, C-4-2, $55,675 to $58,818 - salary pro-rated based upon start date.

    ABOUT THE POSITION:
    This position will work to support District Equity Initiatives for Rochester Public Schools. The vision is to create a culture within RPS where all decisions are made with an equity lens. The Equity Specialist will work with school sites, the district and the community to identify strengths and areas of growth in student support and achievement, programming, and professional development.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Work directly with students on the school site to support academic and behavioral needs.
    • Work directly with all building staff to build cultural competency capacity.
    • Plan and conduct parent involvement meetings specifically focusing on our families of color.
    • Plan and execute parent involvement workshops and training to strengthen parent-student engagement and support.
    • Collaborate in data review with district staff, parents and community stakeholders.
    • Collaboration with building Administrators to provide professional learning opportunities around equitable practices, anti oppressive, and proactive measures on inclusive culture for district staff and students.
    • Collaboration with parents and youth, in discussion and planning around topics relevant to them as well as soliciting concerns and ways to address these concerns and build capacity.
    • Facilitate communication between students, parents, and school staff to ensure student achievement.
    • Act as a consultant to teachers, administrators and other staff regarding culture, heritage and background for students and families.
    • Serve as a bridge between the schools and families and advocate of educational equity for all students and families.
    • Serve as a resource for principals to develop a positive building climate that leads to educational equity and student achievement for all students.
    • Serve as a resource for teams designated to analyze school data (Equity team, Professional Learning Committee, Positive Behavior Intervention Systems, and Data Teams) to develop action plans to ensure educational equity for all students.
    • Establish and develop strong community relationships (colleges and universities, religious, social services) to cultivate the possibilities of college from elementary to high school, engage in service learning, and to provide our students and families with community resources.
    • Facilitate student’s empowerment; social, racial, academic, and identity development groups.
    • Monitor students’ academic progress and work with other building staff to develop academic success plans for students.
    • Collaborate with staff to provide supplemental culturally relevant learning opportunities in and out of the classroom that will help maximize understanding of core standards curriculum content and introduce equity, race, pluralism, and social justice education.
    • Participate in facilitating district-wide staff development trainings and building-wide staff development trainings.
    • Help to develop successful integration of curriculum, pedagogy delivery, parent engagement, student voice, and critical examination of institutional racism that leads to educational equity and student achievement.
    • Attending building staff and PLC meetings and meetings involving students as requested.
    • Other tasks as assigned that further our efforts toward racial equity and student achievement.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
    • Strong communication skills; in person and virtually.
    • Ability to work well with parents, students and the community
    • Advanced technology skills, including Google suite, word processing, spreadsheet, database software
    • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, work under pressure, work with frequent interruptions, and work independently
    • Knowledge of and experience working with underrepresented populations (which may be, but are not limited to LGBTQ , Racial/Cultural minorities, differently abled persons).
    • Knowledge of Federal and State Laws: Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Title IX (gender equity), Section 504 and Americans with Disabilities Act (disability equity), Title VI of the Civil Rights Act (race/national origin equity) and relevant state laws.
