Job Summary: Support and assist simulation learning activities in the nursing and respiratory care programs by providing technical support and operation of simulation manikins and related technology to include preparation, maintenance and repair of complex computerized, high fidelity manikins and associated software. Efficient operation of the data capture systems, multimedia peripherals, and archiving data collected during scenarios. The Health Sciences Simulation Technician must have a broad knowledge of simulation, audiovisual and computer technologies, simulation methodology, and healthcare delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (related duties may be assigned):
Work collaboratively with faculty in the nursing and respiratory care programs.
Plan together with division staff and faculty for the scheduling of simulator maintenance, computer maintenance/updates, organization of and inventory of simulation supplies, which will meet the needs and goals of the programs.
Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning, repairing, assuring that all equipment is maintained in good working order at all times.
Support student learning activities in the simulation setting for both respiratory care and nursing programs.
Participates in weekly SIM Huddles to plan for activities needed for the simulations for the week, such as but not limited to:
Review simulations scheduled for the week: course, objectives for the SIM, type of SIM
Activities required the day before the scheduled simulation
Activities required the morning of simulation, prior to the start of simulation
Activities required during the scheduled simulation
Activities required post simulation
Assist with student orientation to simulation rooms (SimMan, SimMom, and SimBaby).
Provide setup/takedown/moulage of requested simulations.
When assisting with simulation scenarios prepare technology for use, perform set up of scenario, moulage of manikin, changeover to next scenario, take down at the end of the simulation day, and replenish supplies and inventory.
Responsible for setting up debriefing room including viewing television, white board, any documentation, and pre-brief materials.
Program scenarios as needed, test scenarios, and operate technology for faculty simulation facilitators, assuring that the facility, equipment, manikins or standardized patients, and supplies are set up appropriately and that desired outcomes will be achieved.
Consult with faculty and staff on appropriateness of simulation and ensure accuracy of scenario, including supporting props, moulage, and documents to achieve learning outcomes.
Provide training and support faculty and other staff in the technical aspects of simulation.
Along with RVC IT support and vendor IT support (A/V system and high-fidelity simulators) provide specialized technical support and maintenance for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of server infrastructure, digital cameras, video camera, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, monitors, and medical equipment.
Audit, test and ensure all equipment and systems run efficiently according to current specification requirements, keeping apprised of periodic product information releases.
Serves as main point of contact for RVC IT and vendor IT.
Keep apprised of all emerging technologies affecting simulation and data capture and participate in technical training.
Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and conduct routine inventory updates.
Provide recommendations for purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials.
Maintain record of repairs required and completed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree or higher in a healthcare field or in Computer Science or related field.
Healthcare experience as LPN, EMT, Paramedic, RN, or RRT or similar credentials.
Two years, or longer, professional experience in the healthcare field: pre-hospital, in a hospital, or other healthcare experience.
Must be able to independently move equipment (less than 25 lbs) and move manikins (less than 50 lbs) with assistance of others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in simulation lab preferred
KBPort and Laerdal experience preferred
Other Skills and Attributes Required:
Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS software applications, internet and database use.
Technology, multimedia, audio/visual experience including knowledge of networks, computer security, databases, servers, decoders, audio mixers, etc. Ability to assess, troubleshoot and fix equipment and technology failures in a timely fashion.

Ability to work independently under limited supervision, including learning new software/hardware quickly.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and able to work effectively in a team environment.

Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication, and editing.
Must be flexible with work week schedule as simulation activities vary depending on scheduling of simulations.
