    Job Description

    Job Title: Early Childhood Building Principal

    Department: Education
    Supervisor: Executive Director of Early Childhood
    FLSA Status: Exempt


    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Administers instructional programs and supervises all activities and services in a school building to provide maximum educational opportunities for all pupils.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Building staff - certified and non-certified

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
    1.Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board’s strategic plan.
    • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
    4. The primary responsibility of the building principal is to assume a leadership role in the improvement of instruction, initiatives for improving student achievement, curriculum delivery, student assessment and staff development.
    5.Responsible for following the student code of conduct and Illinois School Code in executing student discipline in the building.
    • Assumes major responsibilities for effectively implementing curriculum policies formulated by the Board and the administrative regulations established by the Superintendent.
    • Completes all District, State and Federal reports in accordance with procedures and timelines established by the District.
    • Facilitates participation with in-service programs for certified and non-certified staff members to enhance their competencies.
    • Communicates the school’s goals, accomplishments, practices, and policies to parents, students and the community.
    • Facilitates the school improvement planning process to enhance all curricular and co-curricular programs.
    • Evaluates all staff members in accordance with Illinois School Code, District procedures and timelines.
    • Provides supervisory assistance in such areas as instructional delivery, curriculum delivery, special education, and support services to enhance student achievement.
    • Interprets the work of the school to the community by developing lines of communication with parents and professional staff regarding the school’s goals, accomplishments, practices, policies, and by encouraging community involvement in the plans and programs of the school.
    • Prepares and administers the school budgets.
    • Assumes the responsibility for the recommending of personnel for the building, in cooperation with the Department of Human Resources.
    • Recommends removal of staff whose work remains unsatisfactory after remediation efforts have been implemented.
    • Secures healthy, safe, and efficient operation and maintenance of the school campus.
    QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree and proper certification in accordance with the School Code of the State of Illinois.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Job requires substantial knowledge and skills relating to the duties and responsibilities identified above; also the ability to work in, and manage, a multi-racial organization with a diverse client population. Basic knowledge of computers and current technology is needed.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
