    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Assist in the coordination and technical assistance necessary to support a Title I School in planning and implementing effective parent engagement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance. Work to strengthen the role of parents by increasing opportunities for meaningful engagement in the education of their children. Work with community partners to refine existing and foster new collaborative relationships with outside organizations to enhance student learning and provide growth opportunities for students in the Title I school.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     • Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board’s strategic plan.
    • Carries out such additional duties as required or as conditions necessitate.
    • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
    • Collaborate with personnel in the District’s Family and Community Engagement department to develop strategies, activities, and resources in concert with District goals and plans.
    • Use personal vehicle to conduct business as necessary.
    • Maintain security of confidential information.
    • Prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
    • Present and facilitate meetings attended by diverse groups of stakeholders within the Title I school.
    • Communicate with tact, patience, and courtesy.
    • Build the school’s capacity for parent and community engagement.
    • Promote the importance of parent engagement with school personnel (e.g. principal, teachers, and building staff) for the purpose of providing effective methods and tools for working with parents as effective partners.
    • Communicate district resources (Parent Portal, Let’s Talk, Peachjar and other resources) to parents to improve student successes.
    • Identify, initiate, establish and maintain effective relationships.
    • Suggest, schedule, and implement new community-based programs, partnerships, and other engagement initiatives to parents and school personnel.
    • Create and maintain database of community organizations, businesses, and volunteers in support of parent and community engagement.
    • Create opportunities for parent and community collaboration.
    • Collaborate with principal and PTO to develop initiatives that foster family-friendly school climates and help promote family events in schools or other district initiatives that benefit students.
    • Provide reports and logs on activities to include but not limited to parent and community contacts, DPAC meetings, parent focus groups, visits to schools.
    • Maintain and collect accurate records and documentation such as fliers, newsletters, postcards, agendas, meeting minutes, sign-up sheets of all activities conducted by the Title I school.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Associate’s Degree or High School Diploma with experience in public relations, education, or social work and two years’ experience in community outreach, parent education, and event organization preferred.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, listening, verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality on sensitive issues.
    • Ability to interact effectively with management, and adapt to changes in organizational responsibilities.
    • Knowledge of how to access district and community resources.
    • Ability to work successfully with diverse parents and parent groups.
    • Maintain high energy level and demonstrate positive outlook.
    • Demonstrate solid understanding of and experience with diverse populations.
    • Self-starter and team builder and player.
    • Well-versed in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
    • Must have valid Illinois driver’s license.



    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.


    PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
    Demonstrate continuous improvement in key Title I school and Improvement and Innovation Department measures and as determined by the Principal and Executive Director of Improvement and Innovation (ED role is within the confines of state and federal statue and regulations).
