Position Summary – At Rockhill Orthopaedics, the Certified Athletic Trainer improves physician productivity, patient outcomes and satisfaction by effectively and efficiently helping our patients through the evaluation and treatment process. The athletic trainer will use their knowledge of a large range of medical problems by performing evaluations, providing instruction on exercise prescriptions, wellness protection, and general patient care education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Responsible for taking patient history, initial evaluation, and documentation.
  • Responsible for patient setup and education of in office procedures.
  • Design and educate patients on home exercise protocols per the physician’s request.
  • Triage patient messages, phone calls and questions appropriately.
  • Counsel patient regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes.
  • Responsible for brace and crutch fitting and product education. Responsible for fitting both off the shelf and custom durable medical equipment.
  • Sterilize equipment before and after treatment and properly dispose used containers and medical items.
  • Update patients’ chart with relevant and current information regarding their past and current health condition.
  • Communicate with patients about post –operative recovery process and inform the surgeon of any concerns of complaints regarding treatment progress.
  • Prepare documentation as requested by physician before seeing patients (clinic prepping, x-ray, injection procedures, and other minor surgical procedures).
  • Safely apply and remove casts and splints on upper and lower extremities as directed by a physician.
  • Assist in dressing changes and suture removal.
  • Proficient with DME equipment, management, and proper fitting. measuring and fitting devices, documenting for possible reimbursement.
  • Any other job duties, including participation in Athletic Training Outreach programs, as requested by the physicians or management.
Specifications/Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
  • Be able to render medical services or treatments, under the direction of a physician, in accordance with their education and training and the state of Missouri’s statues, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation.
  • Applied knowledge about a large range of medical problems.
  • Be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Athletic trainers work with people in stressful situations. Keeping a clear head and a calm demeanor when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families will be an asset.
  • Have strong oral communication skills (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension).
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
Typical Physical Demands – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Work is medium demand. Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc.

Work Hours – Full Time
Education – Bachelor’s Degree/Master’s Degree preferred
Work Experience – Clinical experience is preferred. Minimum 2-3 years of experience as an athletic trainer. Experience in fitting braces, casting/taping, inventory management, and electronic medical record experience are all a plus.
Certification/Licensing - Must be BOC certified and possess a current and active Missouri state athletic training licensure. Current CPR/BLS certification required.
