POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing the engineering resources within the Mechanical Engineering Group by providing direction and assistance to all Mechanical Engineers working on the Mechanical Systems for all proposals and projects. Oversee all aspects and details of Mechanical Enginering.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the group of Mechanical Engineers including the Mechanical Engineer Group Leader by assigning appropriately skilled resources to proposals and/or projects, so they can most effectively perform their duties and responsibilities (resource planning).
  • Interface closely with all Department Managers, especially the Piping Design Manager and the Mechanical Design Manager to ensure all aspects of each projects’ scope relating to mechanical engineering and piping design are completed on time and within the budgeted estimates.
  • Provide administrative direction to the Mechanical Engineering group including: approving/denying PTO requests, perform performance reviews for all personnel in the group, and mentoring of resources.
  • Develop standard methods and procedures to improve the consistency, quality, and efficiency of the mechanical engineering deliverables for all projects and proposals.
  • Manage proposal development for the Mechanical Engineering aspects of all projects. This will include material take-off, material pricing, man hours required to complete projects.
  • Provide technical direction to the Mechanical Engineering group.
  • Evaluate and/or specify mechanical process systems and support equipment.
  • Evaluate general arrangements of process equipment, their utility requirements, and subsequent support equipment arrangements.
  • Drive the development of the following typical drawing packages by providing direction and assistance to the Lead Engineers and Designers.
  • Phase 1 (30% Review), 60% Review, 95% Review, Issued for Bid (IFB), and Issued for Construction (IFC)
  • Utilize AutoCAD, as needed, for system designs and development of drawing packages.
  • Review drawing details for accuracy, standardization, and completeness.
  • Train engineers to coordinate material take-offs for purchase of all materials required for fabrication and installation of Roeslein provided pre-fabricated and unitized systems.
  • Review Pipe Specification Components to ensure they fit each application, or if an alternate (standard) component can be used.
  • Prepare & submit Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and solicit bids for equipment, systems, and unitized components.
  • Coordinate with Roeslein fabrication facilities on all fabricated, pre-assembled, and unitized system designs.
  • Travel domestically and internationally ranging from 10-30% per year; to assist in the installation and startup of process systems.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train Lead Mechanical Engineer on project execution regarding all mechanical engineering scope (in both the production and support systems areas)
  • Development estimates, proposals, and other Mechanical Engineering deliverables required for Phase 1 packages.
  • Train seasoned engineers to perform these tasks.
  • Lead efforts on initial site visits for evaluation of mechanical systems when needed.
  • Coordinate mechanical engineering efforts on all projects toward the most efficient methods of completing project work utilizing standard methods and procedures.
  • Update and develop standards and procedures when required to consistently allow engineers to execute projects as efficiently as possible.
  • Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization's goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to lift and carry 10 lbs. on a regular basis is required.


KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Seven (7) years, or more, of experience in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • EIT registration is preferred.
  • AutoCAD and drafting experience beyond a basic level is required.
  • Experience developing drawings for fabrication of piping systems is required.
  • Experience with selection and specification of pumps, support equipment and/or HVAC equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of typical piping and piping component materials and appropriate applications is required.
  • Ability to manage time and efforts towards completing designs on time and within budgets is required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.
  • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
  • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
  • Must have a valid driver license to safely commute.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.

  • Ability to independently evaluate, select, design, typical facility mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Exercises judgement on major portions of work and in making decisions and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Ability to research and develop new processes, determining the engineering scope required to complete the design for these processes.
  • Ability to apply sound and diversified knowledge of engineering principles in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
