What are the responsibilities and job description for the Driver Manager position at Rogers Cartage Co?
Rogers Cartage Co in Spartanburg is looking for a Driver Manager for our Liquid Tanker operations.
The Driver Manager is responsible and accountable for:
1. Providing “Next Available” data to Customer Care.
a. Ensuring drivers are executing Circle of Service.
b. Coaching drivers not properly providing data.
c. Manually providing data to Customer Care not provided via Samsara.
d. Ensuring that Customer Care is seeing the most recent, up to date and accurate data. Reviewing the data multiple times during the day.
e. Concentrating on driver hours of service information.
f. Entering all granted driver time off needs or status changes into the computer system. Ensuring Customer Care is aware of all DOT physical, CDL renewal and Drug Screen events.
g. Executing the arrival process in the computer system in a “real time” manner.
h. Timely accurate data. Missing, late and/or inaccurate data is not acceptable.
2. Reviewing all trip plans to be very sure they are realistic, the driver understands them and to report any discrepancies immediately to the applicable Fleet Manager.
3. Reviewing each load assignment with each driver to ensure that not only does the shipment meet the requirements of the EFS Dispatch but that the driver understands and commits to the expectations of an EFS Dispatch.
4. Reviewing and approving all time off requests and requests for cash advances (with supervision).
5. Meeting all new drivers assigned, making them feel welcomed and part of the team.
6. Greeting and interacting with system/foreign drivers passing through the Operations Center. This includes answering (or getting answers to) any questions relative to operations, equipment requests, or personal requests. This function requires an extra effort on the part of the DM to be accommodating to system/foreign drivers.
7. Being knowledgeable in all aspects of the operation in order to effectively answer any driver questions related to operations.
8. Maintaining the inventory of Chemical Product Hose carried on trucks and in stock at the Operations Center, Terminal, or Tank Wash.
9. Executing accurate and effective Proactive Load Tracking for their assigned drivers and communicating any delays/anticipated delays, to Customer Care in a timely manner.
10. Managing and leading all drivers to conduct operations in a safe and legal manner.
11. Keeping drivers informed and motivated while also encouraging professional driver behavior and appearance at all times.
12. Recognizing, reporting and acknowledging all driver positive customer reports, extra effort occurrences, etc. that become known.
13. Reporting I & A data, and more serious driver behavior issues, to the Terminal Manager and assisting with processing and follow-up
14. Participating in 30/60 day driver interviews with new hire drivers and 90 day interviews with all drivers.
15. Reporting and documenting driver behavior/performance errors, policy/procedure violations, and implementing corrective action where necessary.
16. Receiving all driver calls including breakdowns, delays, concerns, suggestions, etc. Reporting all pertinent information to the Terminal Manager and/or Customer Care. Must be diligent reporting all delay information on dispatched shipments.
17. Working with the Terminal Manager to manage fuel mileage.
18. It is never acceptable to speak negatively to drivers regarding Customer Care decisions, assignments, etc. If the DM has input of any kind (suggestions, concerns, complaints, questions) these should be addressed with the TM. The TM will take the input to the next level.
