Position Summary 

The Access and Disability Resources Specialist serves to provide overall departmental administrative support to the department Access and Disability Resources Coordinator by ensuring the implementation of reasonable academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities at Rogue Community College and affiliated outreach centers. This position directly supports the Access and Disability Resources Coordinator in the organization of confidential student data and requires a functional knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and section 504 of the federal code.

1.

Advising 

  • Serves as a student advocate and serves as a mediator between faculty and students
  • Consults classroom instructors on accommodation best practices and implementation
  • Severs as college expert on Access & Disability services

Administrative 

  • Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment both in-person and virtually 
  • Compile, create, and maintain reports and materials for the department, including financial and confidential files
  • Compose correspondences, reports, letters, agendas, applications, fliers, etc.
  • Update and maintain filing system 
  • Develop and adhere to confidential office procedures (such as acquiring and storing student diagnosis data)

Alt Format & ASL Operations 

  • Coordinates, monitors, and maintains alternative format products 
  • Administrates ASL interpreting services including scheduling, vendor communications, timecard approval, and processing of POs 
4. 

Guerin Elwood Foundation Fund 

  • Assigns, tracks and reports on findings of test program 
  • Collaboration with local medical practitioners for testing and follow-up procedures

Other Duties as Assigned

  • May participate in College committees as assigned

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education – A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. 
  • Experience – A minimum of three years progressive experience in clerical functions, and experience with populations with disabilities. Previous community college experience required. 

 Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted:  accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Core Competencies) 

  • Knowledge – Disability laws, including the ADA and Section 504 accommodation requirements; post-secondary disability procedures and policies; office procedures and records and budget management; state-of-the-art technology, and varied communication techniques.  
  • Skills – Verbal and written communication skills; mediation/facilitation skills; computer skills, preferably in Microsoft Office Suite® products; supervisory skills. 
  • Abilities – Maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students, faculty, and outside agencies; set priorities and work well with minimal supervision; efficiently utilize current computer equipment and software including Microsoft Office Suite® products; operate office equipment for post-secondary disability programs; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; maintain accuracy and attention to detail during fast-paced, intense student request periods; demonstrate initiative, appropriate decision-making, and a courteous attitude with personal and sensitive student situations; maintain confidentiality, especially regarding students and student records. Pass a criminal background check, which includes submitting a fingerprint-based Criminal History Verification to the Oregon Department of Education, then to the Oregon State Police and FBI for verification.

Other Requirements 

  • For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.

  • This position functions as an in-person work arrangement, working on-campus with either a set schedule or flexibility depending on operational needs.

Physical Demands

The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions.        

  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required for over half of the daily work period (about 75%) which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment.     While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and over 60 pounds rarely.  This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office environment.  The employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate.
This is a Full-time Classified, 40 hour per week (100%) position in the Access & Disability Resources department. Starting compensation is entry level for Group 7 on the 2023-24 Classified Salary Schedule.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness
 
Rogue Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
