This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching in the Allied Health Occupations department. The pool will remain open until June 2024 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available.

Responsible for content delivery of assigned Medical Assistant courses, providing direct supervision and assessing progress of assigned medical assistant students in a classroom or simulation lab classroom setting. Participate in program faculty meetings. Maintain college standards regarding professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the medical assistant program and Allied Health Occupations department.  

Supervision Received
The dean, in consultation with the Allied Health Occupations Director is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president. The dean confers with the department director in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.
  1. Prepares, distributes and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate. Gives short daily assessments to students. 
  2. Incorporates, as pedagogically appropriated, current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments including brain considerate classroom training. 
  3. Provides a positive role model for the students, especially in the areas of caring, advocacy, respect for self and others, collegiality, ethical behavior, ethical reasoning, and strong work ethic (including responsibility, dependability, and accountability) and provides constructive feedback to students. 
  4. Provides direct supervision and evaluation of students as they perform in lab or deliver patient care in classroom and/or simulation lab activities.
  5. Provides individual performance review and recommendations to students as needed. 
  6. Utilizes steps of medical assistant process to facilitate student achievements of objectives. 
  7. Incorporates the use of BlackBoard into all courses.
  8. Attends and participates in required department faculty meetings and/or assigned trainings. 
  9. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the objectives, outcomes and curriculum of the program on a periodic basis. 
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.  
Education: For Medical Assistant courses, current AAMA, CMA OR equivalent Certified Clinical Medical Assistant national certification, or RN, LPN, or NP licensed. Previous teaching experience preferred.

Current CPR/First AID card, HIPPA and OSHA standards training required.
 
Only degrees / certificates received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts.

Experience: At least two years of recent full-time medical assisting experience or supervision required. Broad clinical and teaching experience preferred. Three years clinical experience that includes training and instruction to students preferred. AAMA certified or equivalent preferred.  

Knowledge of: Computer applications for online learning through Blackboard learning management system, grading, communication and learning, including, but not limited to, multi-media presentations; curriculum development; the community colleges mission and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs; of the role of accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act; varied pedagogic methods, (including lecture, group activity, discussion and individual instruction) to accommodate a variety of learning styles.

Knowledge of clinical and medical office safety including: Knowledge of safe chemical handling, storage, and disposal procedures; safe handling and disposal of sharps equipment; how to locate and use MSDS sheets; proper medical safety and infectious disease handling and disposal; OSHA and HIPAA training.  

Ability to: Safely demonstrate, model, and instruct students using proper procedures and protocol. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with respect to diverse students, staff, agencies and community members; ability and willingness to work with non-traditional adult learners as well as young adults; demonstrate industry knowledge both the classroom and through related educational duties, including the use of new technologies such as online instruction; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth.  Must pass a criminal background check.

Licenses: For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record at the time of hire is are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for more than half of the daily work period (about 60%), which is spent in a lab/clinical setting, utilizing equipment; and sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, telephones, and other standard office equipment. On feet 90% of time. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 35 pounds on a regular basis. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in a laboratory/ hospital environment, and is potentially exposed to body fluids, pathogens, and hazardous materials. The noise level in the work environment is typical of most lab/hospital environments with potentially loud equipment, frequent interruptions, and background noises. Lighting is adequate.
