Career Opportunity – Press Operator, Molding Department

Position Purpose:

The Press Operator, Molding Department performs a variety of production functions within the molding department. This would include but not be limited to: operating an injection press for plastic parts, packing parts, sonic welding, trimming, sanding, grinding, heating.

Key competencies include:

  • Operate a plastics injection press, open press door, and pull the part out;
  • Trim off flash or sprue using knife, clippers, or heat gun;
  • Pack finished parts in plastic wrap, bags, and/or boxes, assemble boxes, stacks or push boxes into position for pick up;
  • Clean/wipe off the residue from mold, spray the mold with mold release or cleaner;
  • Assemble parts including snapping together, put grommets and inserts into parts, drill holes with mill, tap threads into parts using tap machine and sonic weld inserts;
  • Inspect parts per quality criteria;
  • Detect and notify inspection and shift supervisor of reject conditions found during the shift;
  • Complete operator stuffer sheet and place in each carton of parts;
  • Accurately account for production run quantities during a shift by completing a “Molding Operator Defect Log” sheet;
  • Communicate specific job requirements to the next shift operator and receive instructions from the previous shift operator;
  • Perform general cleanup in the department as required;
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
  • Pay rate for 2nd shift is $15.50 plus $1.50 shift differential
  • 2nd shift hours 2:45 pm to 11:15 pm

Requirements:

Knowledge: An ability to read and write and understand basic arithmetic. Must be able to follow verbal as well as written instructions.

Experience: None, although 6 months or more experience on plastic injection presses is preferred.

Independent Judgment: Slight uses when inspecting parts and equipment. Must understand and apply quality standards.

Quality: Follow operational procedures. The Press Operator must be attentive to details with zero defects as the goal. It is extremely important to focus on the quality of work first so as to dramatically reduce rejects. Handles and protects all parts with the utmost care. Even rejected parts should be handled carefully to reduce the amount of rework needed to save the parts. Molding Press Operators have the main responsibility for quality inspections of all molded parts, It is the operator’s responsibility to inspect parts 100% per quality criteria established for each part as documented on operator instructions for each job. Whenever secondary operations are performed at the press, such as trimming gates, inserting, and sanding, the press operator is responsible to inspect the part 100% per quality criteria established before placing the part in the box. Press Operators are responsible for notifying the shift supervisor when the press starts producing parts with a higher than normal reject fallout.

Physical Exertion: Lift 30 lbs or less. Most jobs require standing the entire shift. The Press Operator rotates on all machines, Jobs will vary. Each requires the use of hands, wrists, and shoulders, and hand/eye coordination. Jobs may require bending, twisting, stooping, and use of the back depending on the size if a part and nature or the job.

Tools: Plastic injection presses, sanders, knife(s), heat guns, parts fixtures, sanding tables, hand clippers, robotic ramps, pads, aerosol spray cans, markers, pencils, gloves, tape, glasses/goggles, shrink wrap, cardboard boxes, and inserts.

Attendance: Must be in attendance on a regular, full-time basis and conform to all Company Attendance Policies. Must be available and willing to work all shifts and overtime (including weekends) as necessary/required.

Pay: $15.50 per hour
