Specialty Practice Nurse Practitioner Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the sponsoring physician, the Specialty Practice Advanced Practitioner assists in coordinating and providing care to patients along the continuum of hospitalization to the outpatient setting. This position works in a non-primary care/specialty area and may have some exposure to the operating room.
For Positions in SLD Heart & Vascular: Primary Heathcare Provider in the Heart Failure Outpatient Clinic: Under the direct supervision of the sponsoring physician and in collaboration with the Department of Cardiology, the nurse practitioner will establish and clinical manage an Outpatient Heart Failure Clinic at Roper Hospital.
Minimum Qualifications :
Education: Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner (NP) program accredited by an appropriate agency recognized by the South Carolina State Board of Medical Examiners (SCSBME).
Experience: Experience as a NP in a specialty practice or hospital setting preferred .
For Positions in SLD Heart & Vascular - Experience : Strongly prefer at least five years nursing experience in Cardiology as an Advanced Practitioner, working under the direction/supervision of Cardiology. Demonstrated successful experience in managing a Heart Failure clinic is preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of South Carolina. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card. Other certifications may be required depending on the location of the position.

Broad clinical knowledge, excellent patient assessment skills and problem-solving ability are foundational. Knowledge of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches to managing symptom distress in the chronically ill CHF patient is required.
Other: This position relies on the supervising physician to be available for consultation, provide advice and assume care of patients who have conditions that place them outside the scope of practice. This position must b e able to utilize, understand and physically operate clinical equipment as well as office equipment such as computer terminals, telephones, etc. Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations. Empathy in communication with families. Able to communicate accurately and positively with other health professionals. Good interpersonal skills required. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with accuracy. Ability to establish priorities and apply common sense approach to patient care.
