What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Assistant position at Ross Environmental Services, Inc. ?
The Corporate Communications Department is responsible for delivering targeted, aligned messaging across internal and external stakeholder groups. The Communications Assistant will assist the Senior Communications Specialist with the development and implementation of the Ross Group of companies’ communications programs including internal and external communications on business activities and goals, marketing communications, and community relations.
• Assists in the researching, writing, designing, editing,, and producing a variety of promotional materials, i.e., newsletter articles, news releases, letters, reports, website content, brochures, advertisements, presentations and other collateral materials targeted to a variety of audiences.
• Provides support for community relations activities such as Township Trustees’ meetings, Zoning Board meetings, annual blood drive, school supply collection drive, Dumpster Days, Lorain County Fair, Midview Schools, Holiday Caring Tree, Earth Day activities, placement of volunteers with local organizations, etc. Some activities require evening and/or weekend commitments.
• Assists with special events and programs as necessary, i.e., facility tours, open houses, outreach programs,. 4-H Trash Barrel Painting Contest, Eaton Township Business Roundtable, etc.
• Assists with Marketing Communications in order to maintain strong, favorable image in the marketplace and maintain positive communications with prospective and current customers. Daily use of advanced PC and business computer applications, telephone conferencing and e-mail.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Requirements
• Degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications or related field a plus. Equivalent experience may be considered.
• 1-3 years’ experience within a corporation or with marketing/public relations agency in writing, photography, and editing for newsletters, magazines, brochures, collateral materials, presentations, websites, and intranet sites.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, and solid writing and copy editing skills (writing samples required).
• Must be willing and able to work on-call and non-standard hours as needed.
• Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), as well as desktop publishing (Publisher). Experience with website design/maintenance (WordPress) and photo editing software is preferred.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Established contacts in the local community (Eaton Township and Lorain County), event planning, and photography skills preferred.
• Must be able to exercise independent judgment and work with minimal supervision.
