What are the responsibilities and job description for the Office Assistant position at Ross Mill Farm?
Administrative Assistant for Pig Rescue
Ross Mill Farm is a multi-service facility dedicated to the potbellied pig as a household companion pet. Recognized nationally for its training and development programs, the Farm’s techniques, services, and products have become the standard for quality and excellence in the care of this unique breed type.
The Farm, originally established in 1740, is nestled in the rolling hills of Bucks Country, Pennsylvania, one hour north of Philadelphia. Situated on 30 acres of pristine woods and streams, the historic fieldstone buildings and grounds, along with the Lodge… our main boarding facility… have been carefully modified to provide the perfect environment for the care of pet pigs.
Ross Mill Farm works hand-in-hand with Pig Placement Network, a 501c-3 charity. PPN works with animal shelters, humane societies, and pet pig owners to rescue and help place unwanted, abused, or abandoned pet pigs into new, loving homes. Pig Placement Network’s mission is to educate current and potential pet pig owners, veterinarians, shelters, and the general public on understanding what it takes to successfully and safely care and provide for the potbelly pig as a pet. Ross Mill Farm is the largest foster home for PPN pigs seeking their forever homes.

And as for you, you have management skills. You are mature, creative, communicative, adaptable, and organized. Being kind and compassionate will come in very handy, as you will talk with people needing to board or surrender their pigs who are often dealing with challenging or traumatic situations. Friendliness is a plus as well since you’ll often interact with tour groups and customers. Ideally, you also have enthusiasm and passion for the wonderful work we do to help pigs in need. It is important and inevitable that you will come to understand and appreciate the magnificence of pet pigs. If you come with an already established love for these little oinkers, even better.
It is preferred that you live within 15 miles of the farm in Jamison, PA. The hours of the job are 8:30-4:30. We would like you to be willing to work weekends and holidays as needed.
Ross Mill Farm is a place like no other. The road into work is wooded on one side and parallels the meandering Neshaminy Creek on the other. Keep your eye out for a Great Blue Heron on your way in. When you arrive on the farm at 8:30, it’s peaceful and serene, perhaps even magical, any time of year. Your office is in a gorgeous, historic stone farmhouse with woodstoves and wood plank floors. You’ll need to stretch your legs or check in with your coworkers in The Lodge each day, which leaves you no choice but to go visit your favorite pigs or introduce yourself to any new arrivals who might be a little nervous. How great is that? Come for the job, stay for the pigs.
Please send your resume with a cover letter stating why you are qualified to be the Office Assistant at Ross Mill Farm. We look forward to meeting you.
