RPS is seeking a motivated and well-rounded Transportation Planner to join our growing Traffic Engineering & Transportation Planning Team. The ideal candidate will have robust data analysis abilities, proficiency with GIS, a keen eye for graphical presentation, and strong verbal and written communication skills. The Transportation Planner will assist with a diverse array of public-sector projects, including multimodal streets, managed lanes, safety assessments, and long-range plans, by performing statistical analysis; preparing maps and infographics; writing technical and narrative reports; collaborating with colleagues and clients; and facilitating public and stakeholder engagement activities. We’re looking for someone who would describe themselves as proactive, positive, collaborative, and willing take on and lead new challenges.
Responsibilities
- Collaborating with project managers and a multidisciplinary team (traffic engineers, design engineers, drafters) to determine the best way to analyze and present information.
- Preparing reports, memos, presentations, and assisting with proposals.
- Developing intuitive and attractive visualizations, including 3D models and photo composite renderings, for various types of infrastructure projects.
- Creating infographics, graphs, tables, and other forms of static and dynamic data displays.
- Gathering, organizing, finding, and interpreting trends in large data sets.
- Assisting with planning-level analysis related to traffic flow, multimodal performance, travel patterns/behavior, forecasting, conceptual design, and safety.
- Building task and project management skills.
Requirements
- 2 years of work experience in transportation planning or another closely related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, civil engineering, geography, urban design, or another closely related field.
- Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS products for analysis and graphic design.
- Proficiency in core MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong Excel skills preferred.
- Working knowledge of one or more product in the Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g. Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
- Working knowledge of transportation planning concepts, regulations, and practices.
- Desire to collaborate, problem-solve, and “make complex easy.”
- Strong visual and written communication skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in urban planning, civil engineering, geography, urban design, or another closely related field.
- Previous work with ArcGIS Online and/or Experience Builder to develop shareable web map interfaces.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud products (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) for mapping, infographics, and report layouts.
- At least one professional certification such as American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP), or Professional Transportation Planner (PTP).
