RS&H is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation practice in our Jacksonville, FL office!

In this role, you will be responsible for the structural aspects of highway and/or railroad bridge engineering projects. This position will be responsible for delivering current and future projects through construction, managing projects, leading tasks, and mentoring/developing team members to advance their careers. This position will also be responsible for leading technical pursuits and proposal writing.
Job Summary: This position is responsible for making decisions and recommendations that have a significant impact on the organization and recommending operational strategies and plans with direct impact on results. This position typically has final decision-making authority on technical matters in his/her disciplines. This position is a thought leader in area of specialization and develops and implements new services, processes, standards, or operational plans that have a significant impact on the achievement of functional results. This position makes decisions and recommendations that may have a significant impact on the organization and requires communication with senior leadership on matters of strategic importance.
Essential Functions:
- Defines project elements and processes required to meet client needs, along with participating in and coordinating preparation of bids and promoting and maintaining client relationships.
- Oversees performance to contracts through shared planning and monitoring of work orders and deliverables with engineering, construction, and various other disciplines.
- Leads major projects or multiple moderate projects with complex elements and a broad scope of responsibilities, through strong professional and technical leadership to ensure successful completion.
- Coordinates with project management to execute project plans and directly supervise the teams' design and technical delivery.
- Promotes and maintains client relationships through all project phases, including presenting directly to the client on technical and design solutions. Serve as a firm ambassador to win new work.
- Recommends new practices or changes in emphasis for professional services based on the latest methods, best practices, technological innovations, and developments.
- Serves as a discipline leader, subject matter expert, and technical resource for discipline and related program activities, including active participation in discipline quality improvement and assurance activities.
- Leads the development and application of company-wide standard operating procedures and technical requirements for projects and discipline deliverables.
- Maintains professional registration and licensure by ensuring conformance with professional, ethical, educational, and discipline practice requirements. Remains knowledgeable of all applicable federal, state, and local codes, criteria, regulations, and ordinances that are pertinent to respective discipline.
- May supervise direct reports, including hiring, coaching, performance reviews, development conversations, and productivity management.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and within scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent experience.
- Must have a FL professional engineering (PE) registration with the ability to obtain comity in other jurisdictions as required.
- Minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience.
- Recognized as a thought leader in area of specialization.
- Prior experience leading the work of multiple disciplines within an office or organization. This includes experience participating in and/or having decision-making on technical matters within designated discipline(s).
- Proficient in production software and construction document production.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills, including ability to communicate with senior leadership on matters of strategic importance.
- Must have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, and other key stakeholders.
- Proven ability to successfully address challenging or potentially controversial issues in a sound professional and business-like manner.
- Proven background and ability to make decisions that have significant impact to an organization, as well as recommend operational strategies and plans with direct impact on results.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree with structural emphasis.
- Experience designing transportation structures including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, miscellaneous structures, and construction engineering.
- Good working knowledge of MicroStation, Excel, Mathcad, variety of Structural Design Software, (examples include STAAD, MDX, LPILE, CONSPAN, RISA, LARSA).
- Experience with Finite Element Method/Analysis preferred.
- Experience working on traditional Design Bid-Build and Design-Build delivery methods.
- Experience working as Owner’s Representative on projects.
- Experience working on FDOT projects.
- Experience managing and mentoring engineering staff.
- Experience with business development including client relationship management, proposal writing and presentations
