The Opportunity
RS&H is seeking a Toll Operations Data Science Engineer to join our Consulting Practice in our Miami, FL office! This is a hybrid role.
Job Summary: This position performs tasks that are focused on meeting the defined tolling service needs of the project or program, including items such as research investigations, data analysis, report preparation and documentation, and other related tasks requiring the knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques commonly employed within the tolling industry. This position works as part of a project team in delivering work products for the client, can serve as a task manager, and may engage in tolling infrastructure design work and support tasks within toll programs.
Essential Functions:
- Provides support to toll programs and projects under the general direction of task leads, senior associates, and/or management. Performs limited review of, and studies, project artifacts and documents (e.g., project contracts, TSI contracts, infrastructure design, toll system design documents, business policy documents, business rules, definitions, and acronym documents, etc.) to learn about the system, project, and infrastructure.
- Supports toll programs/projects throughout their planning, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance stages. Works with project teams and technical experts to assist in delivering value.
- Supports in efforts for the review of toll system integrator (TSI) deliverables, validation of completion of project milestones by a TSI, ensures system and project requirements are captured and addressed in TSI deliverables and formal tests, and TSI deliverables are submitted and approved within the timeframe established by the TSI's contract.
- Provides the basic level of design and research needed to provide solutions as directed by a task lead or senior associate.
- Serves as a tolling resource to team members and other associates across the organization. Performs data analysis, executive report development, development of talking points, and development of data tracking and trending spreadsheets for toll-specific data, under the direction of a senior associate. Coordinates with task leads to develop and complete solution offerings for our clients.
- Participates in various toll system testing activities under the guidance of a task lead or senior associate.
- Participates in field inspections of tolling infrastructure or tolling systems at various stages of work under the guidance of a task lead or senior associate.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and within the scope of practice.
Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
- Typically requires a minimum of 3 years relevant experience, including directly supporting, and consulting with clients on transportation and tolling projects, with some understanding of toll operations.
- Must understand systems (toll systems a plus) and be able to develop, review, and/or comment on technical documentation.
- Must possess strong oral and written communications skills. Must have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, and other key stakeholders.
- Requires professional-level skill with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, etc., working knowledge of MS Project, as well as computer-aided design drawing software (e.g., MicroStation or similar).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Initial understanding of the tolling industry relative to toll collection operations and toll systems.
- Proficiency in data analytics tolls and technicques such as SQL, Power BI, Tableau, and Python.
