The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an entry level Engineer for our Carolina’s ITS & Traffic Signals Group in our San Antonio, TX office. The position is national in scope, but the Engineer will also work locally and regionally with associates based in San Antonio and Austin, TX. Primary activities will include:
- Coordinated Traffic Signal Timing
- Traffic Signal Design
- Traffic Signal Electrical Details
- Controller Cabinet Testing
- Traffic Signal Communication plans
- Intelligent Transportation Systems
- Integrated Corridor Management
Secondary activities may include:
- Toll Site Design
- Emerging Technologies
This position offers hands on opportunities with a greater variety of skills than most civil engineering disciplines. The position will require office and field work in support of the above primary activities. Office responsibilities include development of coordinated traffic signal timing plans using Synchro and TruTraffic; MicroStation CADD drafting on tasks related to designing traffic signals, fiber-optic communications cable routing, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) plans; and development and hands-on testing of traffic signal electrical/programming details on a controller cabinet. Field work includes verification of properly operating traffic signals, travel time studies, implementation and fine-tuning for coordinated traffic signal timing plans; utility surveys and route selection for fiber-optic communications plans; and surveys for closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) and dynamic message sign (DMS) locations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Computer Science from an ABET accredited university
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
- Willingness to work with different teams to meet project deadlines
- Ability to work independently with general supervision as well as within a collaborative team environment
- Strong work ethic aligning with the company’s mission and core values
- A passion for traffic signals
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework that includes Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, Traffic Engineering, and/or Electrical Engineering
- Experience with traffic analysis tools (Synchro and/or TruTraffic)
- Previous internship experience
- Exposure to MicroStation
