SG&R's Energy Division is working to develop and implement low emission energy technology alternatives, raise private financing for energy infrastructure, bring efficiency to utilities, work with governments on legal and regulatory reforms to alleviate bottlenecks in energy generation and consumption, and increase access to green energy to sustain economic growth and reduce poverty. We serve as a chosen partner for USAID's Power Africa program in sub-Sahara Africa and have an established international energy portfolio of over $300 million across Africa, Asia, Pacific Islands, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Position Description:
SG&R's Energy Division is recruiting for a Director, Energy to support the International Development Group on an anticipated large-scale energy and procurement program in Eastern Europe funded by USAID. This position is an opportunity for an experienced energy sector professional seeking to expand their technical implementation, management, business development, and research experience. This position will report to the Vice President, Energy and could be based in Washington, DC, or the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (RTI headquarters). Telecommuting will be considered on a case-by-case basis, though candidates based in the U.S. East Coast time zone are preferred. The position will be expected to travel internationally up to 25% of the time.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US. Position is contingent upon award and funding.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for responsive, compliant, and impactful programming through the monitoring and advising of overall operational and technical quality of deliverables.
- Responsible for the accuracy of project timelines, tasks, milestones, resource requirements, costs, risks and execution.
- Using key performance indicators, address performance issues and maintain alignment with the division's strategic business goals.
- Collaborate with the Chief of Party on the definition and execution of project activities; the development of plans, schedules, budgets and deliverable; and performance issues with project staff and sub-contractors or sub-awardees.
- Monitor and review project budget and expenditures, financial forecasts, working with business partners to ensure compliance with corporate and client regulations.
- Responsible for meeting project financial goals.
- Review deliverables invoicing and staff sold time for accuracy and timeliness.
- Regularly confer with client to get performance feedback and to resolve problems or issues should they arise.
- Lead project status updates in IDG's review process, ensure control, and escalate issues in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Directly supervising Chief of Party and other Project Management Team staff (Operations Managers, Project Coordinators, Project Associates, etc.).
- Serve as a technical contributor for proposal solutioning, conceptualizing energy sector approaches, teaming strategies, partner negotiations.
- Actively build and leverage professional networks in the energy sector, to assist in recruitment of future team members.
- Contribute to RTI thought leadership in global energy development, including published technical articles, papers, and reports in technical areas, as well as presentations, seminars and workshops on relevant topics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and 18 years of experience, Master's degree and 14 years of experience, PhD and 10 years of experience.
- At least 10 years of professional experience in the energy sector.
- At least 10 years of progressive management experience, including experience managing complex and large-scale energy programs funded by USAID.
Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven knowledge and experience in the energy sectors of emerging and developing countries and understanding of the energy sector value chain and key issues.
- Experience working in Europe and Eurasia region strongly preferred.
- Must have excellent listening skills and highly developed sense of responsibility and commitment to customer service and client relationships, including managing multiple relationships with USAID.
- Must be able to manage disparate tasks simultaneously and re-prioritize as necessary.
- Must work effectively under deadlines, both independently and as a team member.
- Must be able to produce accurate and complete documents in a timely manner.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate complex information to multiple audiences working in the international development.
- Ability to work ondiverse and multi-cultural teams.
- Advanced knowledge and skill with MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel.
