Job Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior FPGA Design Engineer to join the FPGA Products Team within the Agile Electronics organization. Agile Electronics drives business success by providing a variety of critical engineering tasks across multiple product lines and functions.
The Senior FPGA Design Engineer is part of a key role within the engineering organization responsible for developing the electronics for defense system products. We engage at the outset of the system development and follow our designs through deployment. Our team helps develop the requirements and bring concepts to life. Our products are deployed all over the world, on the ground, into the atmosphere, and out into space. The FPGA team within the Microelectronics Products Department is responsible for the architecture, design, and documentation of deliverable firmware and FPGA embedded processing.
This role will be 100% on-site and based in McKinney, TX.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
- Develop FPGA designs for all major vendors and device families including: Xilinx (AMD), Altera (Intel), and Microchip.
- Implement designs using VHDL for the following applications: gigabit serial interfaces, Radio Frequency (RF) DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing, and processor interfaces.
- Work with circuit card designers and systems engineers to develop requirements, architect new designs, collaboratively model algorithms, partition and perform code development, simulation, and implementation.
- Verify designs against requirements using both directed test and constrained random test methodologies.
- Provide design support from requirements definition through integration and test, including design documentation and configuration management.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years' of prior work experience OR an Advanced degree in a related field and minimum 3 years' of prior work experience.
- Experience designing FPGAs.
- Experience with digital design and VHDL or Verilog coding.
- Experience with Xilinx (AMD), Altera (Intel), and/or Microchip FPGAs.
- Experience of Xilinx (AMD), Altera (Intel), and/or Microchip devices and instrument flows.
- Integration experience with FPGA-based systems.
- Experience in FPGA timing constraints and timing closure.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related STEM degree highly preferred.
- Experience with the Linux environment.
- Digital signal processing experience on FPGAs.
- Experience with C programming and scripting languages such as Perl and Python.
- Experience with embedded systems design utilizing Microblaze, Nios, or ARM processors.
- Ability to perform work without appreciable direction.
- Ability to work effectively with team members from diverse communities and cultures.
- Ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles.
