What are the responsibilities and job description for the Route Foreman position at Rumpke of Ohio?
Route Foremen are responsible for assisting management in overseeing a group of drivers to ensure safe services to customers. Route Foremen assist with ensuring routes are complete, conducting drivers’ observations, and assisting with resolving customer issues and missed stops.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
- Assist management with the daily activities of route drivers.
- Assist in conducting driver observations and lot inspections.
- Ensure routes are completed by assigned driver or utility driver; will run routes as needed.
- Assist with routing new customers.
- Manage missed stops by working cooperatively with dispatch, drivers and/or office staff to resolve issues.
- Perform periodic Vehicle Safety Inspections.
- Assist with assigning and tracking daily work orders to drivers.
- Ensure drivers complete paperwork in accordance with DOT regulations and company policy.
- Assist with the resolution of customer service issues.
- Assist in the auditing and maintenance of routes.
- Help monitor drivers’ hours in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
- Ensure completion of daily routes and ensure that all productivity goals are met or exceeded.
- Assist with delivery of containers.
- Maintain and updates route sheets.
- Conduct pre-trip/post-trip inspections and completes logs.
- Professional interaction with internal and external customers.
- Maintain and updates drivers’ log sheets.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with all employees, co-workers, and management.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Must meet requirements for residential driver.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing).
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
- Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, Microsoft applications, AS400, and Lotus Notes applications a plus.
- Proven customer service skills.
- Knowledge of area with the ability to read maps.
- Must be able to work independently, assist management, and resolve problems.
- Must be able to operate all residential equipment.
- Must have knowledge of DOT/OSHA regulations.
- Ability to drive truck with manual transmission.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and training.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays and be available to address operational issues by phone.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Must have previous CDL truck driving experience, residential driver experience preferred.
- Previous foreman or management experience, a plus.
- Must have waste industry experience.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have at least a valid Class B CDL.
- Must have a valid DOT medical card or able to obtain prior to hire.
- Must not have any DUI’s or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
- Must not have any license suspensions within the last 2 years.
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
- 2 years CDL truck driving experience, a plus.
- Must be able to produce satisfactory pre-employment drug test and background check results.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions while outside of the vehicle.
