Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Finance is typically involved in a wide range of responsibilities that revolve around managing and overseeing the financial operations of an organization.
- Accounting and Auditing: Manages all of the accounting functions including cost accounting, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, policies, and regulations in accordance with GAAP
- Coordinates and manages the internal and external audit process
- Banking: Maintains professional working relationships and open communication with our banking partners, providing monthly, quarterly compliance and loan covenants reporting and guidance
- Capital Management: Assists ownership in evaluating and managing capital expenditures and financing options
- Cash Flow Management: Monitors cash flows ensuring that the organization has enough funds to meet its financial obligations
- Financial Compliance: Ensures the organization complies with relevant financial regulations and laws. Stays up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements including bank loans and covenants
- Financial Operations: Manages day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable and receivables, daily pub/gift shop sales cash counting and reconciliation, general ledger activities, inventory, expense reporting, collections, and purchase order procedures
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Develops and maintains financial models and forecasts, prepares budgets, analyzes financial data, and provides insights to support strategic decision-making by ownership
- Financial Reporting: Ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Presents financial reports to senior management and ownership
- Financial Systems and Controls: Establishes and maintains effective financial systems, processes, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud
- Payroll: Works closely with the HR Department to upload bi-weekly payroll data into the G/L and assists with any payroll-related reporting and compliance
- Risk Management: Assesses financial risks, including market fluctuations, liquidity, credit, and operational risks. Implement risk mitigation strategies
- Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with other departments and business units to support their financial needs, and assist in achieving overall company objectives
- Tax Planning: Provides timely and accurate information to our tax accountants for tax planning and preparation
- Team Leadership: Supervises and leads the finance team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities
- Assists with special projects as required
- Other Duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position currently has two regular direct reports

- Hands-on expertise in utilizing spreadsheets and generating comprehensive financial reports
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
- Must have a proven track record of working with and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and should be well-versed in financial reporting standards and able to ensure the organization's regulatory compliance with these principles
- Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures
- Organize, prioritize, and effectively manage time
- Proven track record of financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
- Understand and follow oral and written instruction

Requirements
- Must have at least five years of experience as a Controller or Director of Finance with experience supervising employees
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (a Master's degree or MBA is a plus)
- Experience working in wine, beer, spirits, or a manufacturing environment required
- Professional accounting designation (e.g., CMA) is a plus
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
