The RBS Office of Career Management, also known as OCM, works with students to prepare them to be competitive candidates in the job market. Through mock interviews, resume reviews, career fairs, and skills development OCM helps students build the skills necessary to secure internships and full-time opportunities. Our mission is to promote RBS Undergraduate New Brunswick as a source for top talent for employers by preparing our students to find internships, Co-Ops and full-time employment. We accomplish this mission by providing employers concentrated, targeted and focused access to business students and preparing our students to effectively market their value to a prospective employer.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Career Counseling Officer. Reporting directly to the Director, RBS Undergraduate New Brunswick Office of Career Management at the Rutgers Business School, this position performs career counseling, including individual and group career counseling to students in the RBS New Brunswick undergraduate program. The programs currently include majors in Finance, Accounting, Supply chain, Marketing, MIS, and Leadership & Management.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.
- Works closely with the staff of the undergraduate advising office as well as the other career management offices of Rutgers Business School and the Rutgers University career centers in Newark and New Brunswick
- Interfaces with other Rutgers administrative offices as required such as the Office of International Student and Scholar Services
- Represents the programs and RBS at external events
- Administers and interprets career assessment instruments, design and implement workshops that help RBS students with their career management process
- Works with employer relations team to develop and maintain relationships with employers that recruit RBS undergraduate students
- Organizes networking events, seminars, and on campus recruiting events for program students
- Supports student clubs and other student organizations
- Tracks and reports student success stories and career placement after graduation
Travel among regional campuses is required. Travel to industry and corporate events may be required.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, counseling, human resources, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, and a minimum of two years’ relevant related experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires a minimum of four years’ experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of career counseling theories and methodologies for individuals and groups.
- Must have the appropriate qualifying education and/or experience to administer and interpret career assessment instruments
- Also requires outstanding communication skills and computer literacy
- Required open office hours one evening per week
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in business, counseling or human resources is encouraged
- Experience in working with the business school career management programs is preferred
- Outstanding communication and organization skills are preferred
Equipment Utilized
- Utilizes MS Office, Outlook and Career management system.
- Use Excel for data analysis and reporting
- Adobe Publisher for flyer creation, advertising and branding
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Expected to attend networking and career-related daytime and evening events in the tri-state area Expected to travel to other Rutgers campuses when necessary for meetings and events
- Set up and break down of on-campus tabling events is required
- Occasional weekends, evenings, and early mornings
Must be able to lift 30 lbs
