Summary

The Manager of Automation and Continuous Improvement has a dual role to both drive and measure continuous improvement and to oversee the development and expansion of Ryder’s process automation software (including RPA, Service Now workflow, Digital Mailroom, and Power Platform tools.) The successful candidate will be responsible for the identification and prioritization of process automation projects across multiple Ryder business units, partner with IT to manage run-time automation operations, and leading the creation and maintenance of associated business reporting (KPI’s).

The position has responsibility for soliciting and documenting internal client requirements, ensuring as-is processes and opportunities are clearly identified and measured, and easily understood and usable by developers to build and support those automated processes. The manager will learn to recognize and identify impediments to process efficiency and automation and conduct feasibility analyses. The role will partner with various IT teams to ensure successful delivery and internal client satisfaction. The manager will also be responsible for ensuring process documentation remains up to date. Project and Product Management responsibilities may include some direct oversight of design, delivery, testing, and warranty phases of the projects. The successful candidate will have an understanding of enterprise business process, experience in enterprise project delivery, and/or understand the software delivery lifecycle at a large company. Essential Functions

Opportunity Discovery: Interface directly with internal clients including directors and vice presidents to identify, document, and prioritize opportunities. Examples include:

  • Running workshops or side-by-sides with SMEs to understand end to end processes, identifying automation blockers and suitability of the process for automation.
  • Understanding the risks, assumptions, and dependencies associated with the process.
  • Presenting summaries of findings to leaders, technology partners, and client, walking them through to-be designs of automated processes.
  • Requirement Gathering / Delivery: Work closely with development team to ensure requirements are accurately mapped and suitable for development. Track progress daily or weekly as appropriate, provide updates for sprint reviews and in-progress demonstrations to SME’s and leadership.

Benefit Calculation: Calculate automation % and FTE benefit and build effort estimates for all processes. Ensure that prioritization considers expected benefit as well as effort & feasibility.

Continuous Learning and coaching: Evaluate additional tools, best practices, and provide recommendations for additions or changes to the tool-kit, structure, and role of the COE.

  • Responsible for continual research into external expertise to ensure Ryder becomes best-in-class in process efficiency, and use and application of automation.
  • Support and Coach members of the team in business process analysis, stakeholder interaction, and project / program management.

Robotic Workforce Leadership: Management of the Ryder robotic workforce, ensuring appropriate MIS on daily results is complete and accurate. Initial identification and triage of issues with any robots in production.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of process efficiency tools such as Power Platform, Process Automation (RPA), Workflow (Service Now, Salesforce, Zendesk) and/or experience with Macros or VBA.
  • Experience with project or product management tools (Jira, Microsoft VSTS, Atlassian, etc)
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships
  • Ability to lead/manage others, both with and without direct authority
  • Background as a Product Owner, Program Manager , or Portfolio Manager preferred
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of an organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
  • Ability to work independently, as well as a member of a project or operational team
  • Flexibility and Responsibility to operate; self-driven to excel and seek out opportunities and build visibility
  • Detailed oriented with excellent follow-up practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Accounting, Operations, Engineering or Technology; or a bachelor’s degree in other fields plus at least one certification in Project Management, Six Sigma, Lean, or Business Analysis
  • Master's degree preferred in Business, Accounting, Operations, Engineering or Technology
  • Five (5) years experience in large Project Deployments, such as Six Sigma / Lean projects ,Technology Implementations, or Leading Corporate Change Management initiatives.
  • Five (5) years of Exposure to Six Sigma / Lean projects, Corporate IT departments, Operational Improvement, and/or participation in Corporate Change Management initiatives or projects
  • Preferred Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Product Owner (CSPO), Business Process Management (BPM), Lean Certification, American Society for Quality (e.g. Process Analyst), or International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA).

Salary is determined based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market data/ranges; applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; certain degrees or certifications, etc. The salary for this position ranges from $85k to $105k.

Salaries may be supplemented with a bonus as applicable and/or as business conditions allow.
