JOB SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op - Value Stream Engineering at S&C Electric Company reports to the Senior Manager of Value Stream Engineering in Chicago. This position will be focused on Value Stream Mapping to drive towards strategic goals and lead the integration of design engineering deliverables and operations to meet SQDC targets and drive a flawless new product launch. Specifically, this role will be responsible for supporting creation of Value Stream Maps, execution of short term project tasks, and reviewing / optimizing current manufacturing methods. Successful deliverables from this role will include value stream maps to help identify areas for improvement.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Partner and support Manufacturing Engineer in the Value Stream Engineering department.
- Complete short term project tasking to support operations.
- Support Value Stream Mapping and Process Design.
- Support value stream engineers to develop current state value stream maps, identify opportunities for improvement and provide desired future state vision.
- Ability to work in cross-functional / matrix reporting structure.
- Support implementing lean manufacturing principles for operations.
- Support Production Preparation Process (3P) events.
- Advocate for promoting automation solutions to traditional manual operations.
- Support delivery of a stable and capable process to Production Operations that meets targets for safety, quality, delivery, cost.
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering with a graduation date of December 2024 or beyond.
- Ability to commute and work onsite at S&C's HQ located in Rogers Park, Chicago IL.
- Ability to work Full-Time starting in Spring 2024 and throughout Summer 2024 (6 months minimum)
- Value Stream Mapping skills
- Process design experience
- Passionate about lean manufacturing
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, to clearly present ideas in a variety of forums.
- Commitment to continuous improvement through formal and informal learning
MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Standing: Frequent on floor or during VSM activities
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting to 25 lbs. for mock-up or process preparation
- Walking: Occasional walking of moderate distances (1 mile) within the S&C complex
- Carrying: Occasional carrying of light objects for short distances
- Pushing: Occasional use of manual hand truck to move samples or mock-ups
- Pulling: Occasional use of manual hand truck to move samples or mock-ups
- Bending: Occasional bending during mock-up process or assembly or production preparation
- Reaching: Occasional reaching during process mock-up assembly or production preparation
- Handling: Occasional handling of parts and tools during process mock-up, assembly, or production preparation
- Environment: Frequent use of computer workstation in office environment. Occasional work in laboratory environment
