What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist position at S & K Technologies, Inc.?
The Payroll Specialist shall have duties pertaining to all aspects of payroll services provided for employees company-wide, including the areas of: 401k contributions; leave accruals; payroll data transfer to third party administrators; changes to employee pay rates and deductions; recordkeeping and documentation; filings with government agencies; entering/set-up of information and keeping employees files for garnishments/support orders, and maintaining the efficient operation of the payroll department.
Payroll Services:
- Receive, audit, and process timecards.
- Compute and process wage and salary payments and related withholdings.
- Calculate and process payroll adjustments for changes to salary deductions, retro pay, and other changes as needed.
- Audit payroll processes for errors.
- Review computer printouts of payroll transactions and submit documentation for corrections if necessary.
- Distribute paycheck and pay advice forms.
- Organize and maintain a variety of payroll related files, documents, and procedures.
- Maintain spreadsheets, prepare reports, and create routine correspondence using Payroll templates as needed.
- Compile, prepare, and maintain effective payroll reports and statistics.
- Prepare withholding, social security and other federal, state, and local tax reports.
- Organize/review forms associated with tax information and produce reports for payment of taxes.
- Maintain and update confidential employee payroll records.
Customer Services:
- Respond to requests from employees, management and external agencies on matters related to payroll.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with state, local, and federal rules, regulations, laws, and procedures.
- Perform any other related duty as assigned.
Education
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 5 years work experience in accounting or related field, to include a minimum of 1 year working in the payroll field; or- Equivalent combination of education and experience to include a minimum of 1 year working in the payroll field.
Experience
Knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software required.- Able to 10-key, as well as operate standard office equipment including calculators, shredders, fax machines, photocopiers, scanners, printers and/or telephones required.
License, Cert or Registration
Current driver’s license or available transportation to and from work
Special knowledge, skills, & abilities
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees.- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
