Asphalt Paving Superintendent

JOB LOCATION: Wilmington, NC and surrounding areas

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The efficient management of area of responsibility as directed by the Asphalt Division Manager. Position has direct responsibility for personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety, cost, quality workmanship, subcontractors and completion of assigned project in a timely and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Asphalt Paving Superintendent

1. See that new personnel are properly oriented with company policies, safety requirements and job responsibilities.
2. Conduct periodic evaluations of assigned personnel.
3. Review all daily records and verify their accuracy.
4. Maintain daily log recording important conversations and events for future reference.
5. Supervise and direct the activities of project subcontractors and ensure their compliance with all company policies and procedures, safety requirements and quality workmanship.
6. Assist and direct personnel in the proper use and maintenance of equipment, improving job performance, controlling cost, increasing productivity, improving communications and adhering to company policies.
7. Conduct a continuous evaluation of cost and yields, plans and schedules, job assignments, equipment needs, on the job training, safety, security and crime prevention needs. Reports any problems, changes or recommendations to the division manager and/or the project manager.
8. Monitor and insist upon compliance of all company policies and procedures, employment laws and regulatory requirements.
9. Maintain good relations with general public, engineers, architects, inspectors and customers to facilitate job progress and to promote a positive company image.
10. Perform additional duties as needed in the operations of the project or as directed by the Division Manager and/or Project Manager.
11. Must have regular and predictable attendance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be a minimum of 18 years old.

Work Experience:

• Must have 5 plus years' experience in asphalt paving and scheduling subcontractors.
• Experience with NCDOT and/or Federal projects a plus

Heavy Physical Demands:

Heavy physical effort required including pulling and lifting or moving average weight material with occasional lifting or moving materials or equipment (over 80 pounds). If a position specific Physical Demands sheet is attached, it will describe in more detail the physical demands that are required.

Physical Activity:

Position requires the ability to continuously work around noise, dust, heat, cold, oil and heavy equipment. Personal protective equipment may be required. Position requires the ability to exchange ideas quickly and clearly and the ability to receive and evaluate detailed information.
