Scope of Responsibility : The primary responsibility of the Fiber Splicer is the preparation and splicing of fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor environments.
The position requires a good working knowledge of telecommunication infrastructure, familiarity with fiber optic cable and splice enclosures, ability to use fusion splicing equipment and an OTDR.
Ability to read, create and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams. Ability to identify and troubleshoot fiber issues.
Must be able to maintain control of activities surrounding the assigned work site(s). Maintain accurate splicing and field notes.
Support project timelines and provide accurate feedback. This position requires field work which may include overtime, weekends, holidays and off hours.
Travel will be required and may be up to 80%, depending on the business needs. Travel will be within the state of Illinois.
Essential Job Duties :
Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables. Construct a proper splice case, including but not limited to grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing.
Prepare and maintain splicing records, schematics, and diagrams
Physical Requirements :
Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs.
