Program Description

Safe Haven Youth Ranch is a 32 bed trauma-focused residential program that offers a unique approach to achieving healing and recovery. The program combines the use of evidence-based trauma treatment interventions, 4-H youth development programing and individualized behavior skills training as a treatment alternative to youth who have experienced severe traumatic childhood life events of extreme abuse and neglect. These experiences are often frequently exacerbated by the youth’s involvement in the foster care systems.

We are searching for a Residential Shift Supervisor with exemplary prudent judgment and decision-making skills who can maintain a high-quality trauma-informed care environment that supports individualized recovery and resilience for all youth in care.

Under the direction of the Residential Program Manager, the Residential Shift Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily shift operations and the supervision of Residential Direct-Care Staff, including ensuring the well-being and safety for the youth.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 21 years of age, physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform assigned tasks; and
  • Minimum requirements: High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a residential setting and have at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Preferred requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in human services or mental health related field with a minimum of 1-year experience working in a residential setting and have at least 1 year of supervisor in a residential setting.

Responsibilities

House Management

  • Ensure the house remains in compliance with Residential Child-Care Licensing Minimum Standards and Local State Health Department and Fire Safety Standards at all times

Youth Care and Treatment Services

  • Maintains confidentiality of all youth and personnel information
  • Reports immediately any suspected incident of child abuse or neglect to the Director of Residential Services and the Child Abuse Hotline
  • Assists in the intake process of new youth on the day of admission, and assists in the discharge of youth as required
  • Co-facilitate the youth orientation process (including campus tour, safety drills, initial possession searches, and complete related paperwork
  • Coordinates with the Treatment Team ensuring best care practices are provided to all youth
  • Implement the youth ISP and individualized skills training plan as prescribed by the treatment team
  • Coordinates one-to-one direct care services for all intense level youth (as required)
  • Encourage youth participate in the youth-guided care programing
  • Coordinates with the Residential Program Manager and Residential Case Manager to ensure that each youth’s daily schedules and routines are maintained;
  • Dispenses medications in accordance with the instructions of the treating physicians
  • Documents all dispensed medications, including medication errors immediately
  • Secures all medications
  • Being aware of and accountable for each youth’s on-going activity
  • Providing the level of supervision necessary to ensure each youth’s safety and well-being, including auditory and/or visual awareness of each youth’s on-going activity as appropriate
  • Provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns, following proper restraint technique guidelines, and displaying neutral emotions
  • Uses appropriate counseling skills by de-escalating aggression, using active listening skills, using appropriate tone and volume of voice, providing a high frequency and variety of positive reinforcements, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and promoting a positive peer culture
  • Provide first-aid and medical attention as needed
  • Apply verbal redirection when deemed appropriate
  • Implement emergency behavior interventions when needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and other responsibilities as listed in governmental laws and regulations, as well as in SHY Ranch Policies and Procedures

Staff Development and Management

  • Provide direction, training, support and supervises to all Residential Direct-Care Staff during each work day
  • Be a mentor and leader for all Residential Direct-Care Staff
  • Demonstrate correct implementation of SHYR policies and procedure for Residential Direct-Care Staff
  • Ensure Residential Direct-Care Staff are fulfilling their job descriptions
  • Give Residential Direct-Care Staff feedback on job performance in a prompt, tactful, direct and consistent way; follow through with appropriate documentation of employee issues.
  • Assume the direct-care responsibilities in the absents of Residential Direct-Care Staff by reporting to work to cover shift
  • Facilitates daily staff briefing with the Residential Direct-Care Staff before and after shift
  • Ensure all Residential Direct-Care Staff are aware of which youths they are responsible at all times
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Residential Direct-Care Staff adhere to the trauma-informed care practices at all times
  • Responsible for and ensures the Residential Direct-Care Staff implement and follow the youth’s service plans and individualized skills training plan (as developed by the treatment team)
  • Provides oversight to Residential Direct-Care Staff for documentation of youth daily progress and activities (progress notes, incident reports)
  • Responsible for ensuring continuity of care for youth at the point of the shift change by doing the following:
  • Verbally sharing information with incoming Residential Shift Supervisor about each youth’s activities during the previous shift
  • Communicating any verbal or written information given by the youth’s guardian or other service providers/professionals
  • Create all daily shift notes and review the shift notes written by other Residential Shift Supervisor

Team Working Relationships

  • Be able to intervene when necessary to ensure each Residential Direct-Care Staff’s safety (intervene to manage or de-escalate crisis situations)
  • Communicate immediately with the Residential Program Manager regarding any serious incidents and/or significant events that occurred during the shift
  • Ensure continuity of care by sharing information about each youth’s activities and any verbal/written information that occurred during the previous shift at all shift change briefings
  • Build and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, residential staff, inter-disciplinary teams, volunteers, and service providers to ensure the needs of the youth, program goals and services are being met at the highest quality
  • Work as team player and exhibit professional behavior and a positive attitude with both internal and external clients that reflects positively on the SHY Ranch and is consistent with SHY Ranch policies and practices

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
