SCHEDULE

  • Monday-Friday, 8 Hours per day within the time frame of 6am-6pm
  • SMC is an In-office work environment; while laptops are provided and one can work remotely, this is only expected for emergency/unplanned reasons.
  • Must be able to perform system maintenance and upgrades outside of business hours
  • Must be able to travel to other office locations (Long Island, Rhode Island, others TBD) as needed

POSITION SUMMARY

Safety Marking is looking to bring on an IT manager to be responsible for operating SMC’s overall IT environment and leading future technology initiatives. Current IT environment includes the Servers, Storage, Networks, and Telecom systems as well as the applications and systems which directly support the SMC business. In addition to IT operations activities, he/she will actively contribute to the technology research, procurement, configuration, deployment, and continuous enhancement of new IT systems. The IT Manager also acts as Business Relationship Manager for all IT offerings and maintains an active partnership with local management teams and department heads. SMC is going through a significant digital transformation; and this “first of its kind” role is a reflection of the importance and priority placed on this initiative.

The IT function reports into our CFO and will likely grow into a small team in 2025. The ideal candidate has broad technical expertise, combined with a high “bias for action”, strong “project management” skills, and exceptional communication capabilities to enable SMC growth and success in the years to come.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Areas of specific responsibility will include the following (not limited to):

IT Operations

  • Develop and implement IT policies, procedures, and systems that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization's technology infrastructure
  • Partner with 3rd-party infrastructure service provider to track and ensure availability of all IT systems, applications, and capabilities used daily companywide
  • Ensure the security, integrity, and availability of the organization's technology systems and data.
  • Analyze current IT capabilities and assist with, suggest, plan, and implement improvements and procedures to increase IT agility and responsiveness.
  • Report weekly on usage, tickets, issues, and resolutions
  • Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring that expenditures are within the allocated budget.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and secure work environment (Safety is not just our first name!)

New IT Applications and Systems

  • Collaborate with senior management to understand business objectives and provide technology solutions that align with those objectives. Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations for new solutions that align with business needs.
  • Lead/participate and facilitate varying projects and initiatives engaging with team members from all functional areas of the operation.
  • Manage all IT projects including Task planning, defining, monitoring, risk/issue mitigation, tracking of all phases of projects with dependencies, critical path identification, time, scope, and cost considerations/constraints in support of enterprise goals through the production of timely and quality deliverables.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

Important technical skills/functional abilities include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in BIS, MIS, or Computer Science preferred
  • 5 years of work experience in IT support desks, application development, and/or systems deployment required
  • Must have strong understanding of technology infrastructure, including networks, servers, security, and databases. Must be capable of basic application development and/or systems configuration, including generating reports, operating the ERP, and troubleshooting mobile apps.
  • Project management experience required, experience managing small to medium-size projects. Experience managing IT budgets and vendors
  • Must have the ability to interface effectively with all levels of stakeholders and be able to clearly convey complex information, concisely. Negotiation and conflict management experience a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities within a fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter/problem solver with high “bias-for-action” and excellent communication skills
  • Good people skills and a positive attitude
