GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs intermediate technical work obtaining relevant police reports, completing a criminal history on the
defendant, completing substance abuse assessments, domestic violence assessments interviewing the offender,
attends hearings and sentencing and related work as apparent or assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepares presentence investigation reports; interviews offenders; conducts background checks; obtains
referrals and assessments.
- Maintains detail case notes weekly; files paperwork; manages caseloads; monitors compliance for court
- Reviews substance abuse and mental health progress reports; prepares and sets violations; attends hearings
subpoena requests and testifies; enters data on all files.
- Approves times for release while on tether; monitors requests for employment or education; maintains
- Conducts preliminary breath tests; compiles statistics; participates in trainings for education, drivers license
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree with coursework in criminal justice, social work, legal studies, human services,
psychology, counseling, or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Three to five years’ experience as a Probation Officer, community corrections, or substance abuse
treatment provider.
✓ Substance Abuse certification from the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals and/or
the National Association of Forensic Counselors.
✓ Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) certification from the Michigan State Police.
✓ Preliminary Breath Test certification from the Saginaw Sheriff's Department.
