Junior Accountant: Grants Accountant

General Purpose
The Junior Accountant/Grants Accountant provides fiscal support for all grants and contracts including monitoring
administration, compliance, grant accounting, and financial reports of awarded grants through their
final closing.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
• Set up new grants contract
• Manage accounts payable and receivable activities for different grant contracts
• Coordinate the budgeting process and detail for assigned grants
• Set up and monitor budget activity for grants
• Resolve accounting and reporting issues related to different grant contracts
• Prepare monthly submittals for different grant contracts
• Monitor sub-recipients and reimbursement requests for accuracy and ensure sub-recipients are
in compliance with financial policies and grant requirements
• Manage contractors and ensure the terms and conditions of agreements are met
• Coordinate with program staff to ensure transactions are properly recorded and agree to the
grant contract agreements
• Assist in monthly project reconciliations and financial reports
• Work on special projects as assigned
Education
• Essential: Associate degree or equivalent with some courses in business and accounting
• Desirable: Bachelor’s degree with seminars/courses in grant administration and
accounting
Experience
• Essential: 2 years accounting, budget management or related experience
• Desirable: Experience with grant management procedures
Key competencies
• Ability to manage multiple projects, gathering information needs of program staff related to
grants
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize, meet frequent deadlines with, prioritize and
problem-solving skills
• Must prosses a high level of accuracy and be detail-oriented
• Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly
• Knowledge of basic accounting skills and government grant accounting standards would be a
plus
• Strong sense of respect towards client’s dignity and confidentiality
• Flexibility and adaptability
• Experience in working with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
Hours/Salary: Full-time position with benefits including health, dental, vision, and life
insurance and 401k program with company match; sick, vacation, and holiday time off with pay;
$50,000-$65,000.
