Job Summary
Provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, family members and hospital staff. Assist patients, their families, and/or Caregivers with spiritual and emotional integration of current events or need. Documents a spiritual assessment for each patient and/or family visited and prepares a care plan as needed. Participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees and work groups as assigned by supervisor. Provide pastoral care coverage on nights, weekends, and holidays. Minister to people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Must be sensitive to a variety of religious and spiritual beliefs.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Ministry reflects the mission and core values of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in pastoral ministry, theology, spirituality or related field is preferred.
License:
N/A
Training:
One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is preferred. If no CPE units, candidate must complete an in-house chaplain training program and/or complete one unit of CPE within two years of hire date. If ordained, denominational endorsement is required. If a lay person, letter of endorsement from your pastor is required.
Experience:
At least one year of pastoral ministry experience is required, preferably within a health care environment.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, facilitation of grief process, identification of life issues and related feelings; ability to assess spiritual needs and resources. Ability to integrate and follow the policies and procedures of Memorial Hospital and the Pastoral Care Department.
Performance Requirements
Responsibility For:
Participating in the ministries provided by the Pastoral Care Department; conducting patient visitation; providing a spiritual assessment for each patient and/or family visited, developing a plan of care as needed; assisting in meeting the spiritual needs of patients, families and Caregivers; maintaining accurate and complete Pastoral Care records; and assisting in the supervision of volunteers who provide pastoral care in the Hospital.
Physical Demands:
Ability to move freely about the Hospital from room to room and floor to floor as well as the capacity to speak, hear, and see clearly.
Special Demands:
Reflects the mission, philosophy, core values and customer service plan of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in action and attitude. On-call, as needed, to provide crisis intervention and spiritual support to patients and families. Take call as scheduled which may include weekend and holidays when assigned.
