Data Controller

DESCRIPTION

SaiTech, Inc. is seeking to fill a Data Controller position at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA. The Data Controller coordinates and processes the receipt, logging, archiving and distribution of real-time telemetry, monitor, radio science, tracking and command information between the Deep Space Network and individual spacecraft projects.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for Telemetry Tracking & Command (TT&C) configuration and data delivery during real-time, system development and operational test activities. Performs quality and continuity telemetry data checking, submitting and processing appropriate data recalls in accordance with project requirements. Interface with flight projects, development personnel and testers on technical system related problems. Maintains prime resource allocation and configuration of approximately 40 core computers in addition to providing user assistance for over 300 project workstations.

Under general direction of JPL management, and immediate supervision of the Task Manager, performs critical work in support of multiple spacecraft. Work is technical, complex, project specific and customer oriented. The unpredictable nature of this real-time position defies prediction of time allocation across the job components.

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

• Provide continual real-time control of the TT&C operational systems during flight, test, and critical support.
• Establish configurations of interfacing subsystems.
• Keep the Senior Controller apprised of any system degradation or failure and take or recommend appropriate action.
• Perform data quality checks on both inbound and outbound data streams. Participate in data and system analysis.
• Participate in the development of system and data trouble isolation procedures for all system and data related problems.
• Interface with project representatives and within the Data Systems Operations Team to coordinate user activities.
• Interface with system engineers and make recommendations for operational improvements.
• Participate in the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
• Identify equipment malfunctions and coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance actions.
• Load data to the Telemetry Delivery Subsystem (TDS) for project access.
• Ensure the satisfaction of the customer, which includes all spacecraft project personnel.
• Maintain an operational log and shift-turnover activity list of events.
• Maintain control and configuration of delivered software.
• Support programming, hardware development, and testing personnel as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Four years progressive experience in data processing of which at least two are working with network systems.
• Must know system configuration, debugging techniques, testing philosophies, and problem isolation techniques, UNIX and some C-shell and Perl programming.
• Provide correct system configuration and data broadcast, which are critical for the validity and efficiency of real-time project decisions and spacecraft commanding.
• Directly accountable to the Task Manager and during off-shift hours, the Senior Controller

EDUCATION CONTRACT EQUIVALENT STATEMENT:

• BS degree in Computer Science or (or related field), experience may be substituted.
