Position Summary: The Woodshop CNC Operator manages computer numeric controlled (CNC) equipment from setup to operation, producing parts and tools from multiple substrates. They are tasked with monitoring machinery, inspecting finished products, and leading test runs. As the machine operator, to be successful you will need to be a highly skilled professional with excellent attention to detail and mechanical aptitude. This role will require in-depth knowledge of how to operate a CNC Machine using in-depth knowledge and new techniques emerging in the industry. This position has an opportunity for growth into a supervisory role.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities (other Duties May Be Assigned)
General Responsibilities
- Coordinate with Carpentry Shop Manager on projects.
- Assist Carpentry Manager with Material Ordering needs and deliveries
- Monitor project progression to ensure on-time completion.
- Communication of project status with relevant personnel.
- Maintains a safe work environment and ensures the maintenance and upkeep of the physical location.
- Always wear required PPE and help to influence co-workers to also wear required PPE
- Keep regular notes in a working journal for maintaining and operating CNC machinery
- Maintain 5S
CNC Operator
- Perform proper calibration procedures for all equipment and accessories to be used on projects
- Set up, edit, and build CNC files with relevant software complete with toolpaths, tool requirements, job names, etc.
- Set-up and manage CNC machine to perform different jobs including drilling, grinding and milling
- Oversee the machine while it executes the tasks and make the necessary changes to produce improved results
- Working knowledge of tooling and tool selection
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as required
- Perform minor programming and edit program at the machine
- Check Machinery on a regular basis to guarantee functionality
- Ensure that every machine procedure is done in accordance with the strict guidelines of the company
- Keeps Woodshop staff up to date by providing all necessary parts from CNC in a timely fashion
Carpentry/Wood Shop
- Contributes to any needed Woodshop duties on an as-needed basis
- Duties could periodically include but are not limited to:
- Material cut-out
- Assembly
- Laminating/Edge Banding
- Gluing
- Trim
- Finishing
- Painting
Additional Duties And Responsibilities
- Potential for short installation trips to cover short-handed staff or for training staff
- Collaborate and maintain successful team relationships.
- Meets all assigned goals and assists others in accomplishing their goals
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
- Responsible for safely loading/unloading materials for transport.
- Must maintain a validly issued and current driver’s license.
Knowledge And Skills
- Experience with general shop tools and maintenance.
- Experience operating a CNC router.
- Ability to maintain favorable public relations.
- Excellent Time management: the ability to organize/manage multiple projects until completion in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong basic math skills.
Education And Work Experience
- No educational requirements, preferred HS diploma or equivalent
- Prior work experience as a fabricator in a metal shop
- Prior work experience operating CNC Machine
- Prior construction/build experience

- Physical Demands: This position lifts heavy objects of up to 80 pounds, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls and carries objects and uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs.
- Work Environment: This position regularly works in workshop conditions that include cold, heat and humidity. The noise level in the work environment is commensurate with a construction site. This position secondarily works in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. The noise level in the work environment is commensurate with a construction site.
Expected Hours of Work/Travel: This is a full-time position in the Winston Salem office during regular business hours. Days and hours of work are dictated by the nature of the scope of work which can include long hours and weekend work. This position can involve travel of up to 20 days per year.
