SALARY RANGE: $66,500 - $72,000, depending on experience and certifications.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Associate Executive Director serves as the President/CEO’s senior leadership team member. He is responsible for day-to-day operations, setting operational strategy, and ensuring successful operations and growth of the Y through program expansion and innovation, membership growth and engagement, marketing, facilities, financial development, and fiscal management of areas of responsibility. This position requires high integrity, responsibility, and leadership in a dynamic and multi-faceted organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operations & Finance
  • Collaborate with the President/CEO and other members of the senior leadership team to drive the organizational vision and operational strategies.
  • Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth, helping implement organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning.
  • Ensure the operational growth of the YMCA through membership and program expansion, ember/participant recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, and collaborations.
  • Evaluate current systems and procedures for operations management addressing deficiencies when necessary and implementing new procedures where needed.
  • Works cooperatively with the CEO and Finance Director in overseeing the financial direction of the Association through understating financial metrics and the ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret financial statements and related information.
  • Monitor monthly financial reports to ensure revenue targets and expenses are controlled. Takes action to improve performance and achieve financial goals. Develops and implements corrective action plans where needed.
Staff Development & Management
  • Lead with inclusion and ensures all staff members and participants feel welcome and are treated with dignity and respect. Models compassionate leadership behaviors to build a strong staff culture. Builds a staff and volunteer team that reflects the diversity of the community.
  • Provide leadership and direction to directors, coordinators, and staff on daily operations to ensure successful operations, providing members and participants with a safe and exceptional experience.
  • Establish high-performance sales and retention goals and standards, and set realistic work objectives/standards for leadership and staff.
  • Work with department leaders to develop annual performance goals and objectives aligned with approved departmental budgets.
  • Together, the Associate Executive Director and HR leadership will collaborate and are responsible for the following:
    • identifying and developing talent, recruiting, and enforcing our culture as an “employer of choice.”
    • Professional growth and development of all employees in operational roles.
    • Attracting and retaining a highly competent, mission-oriented, diverse, and values-driven team and workforce.
    • Ensuring that training and certification requirements are met for all staff, in-services, and ongoing training are implemented to ensure our staff feel they have the tools to be successful in their roles.
    • Manage relationships both internally and externally, supporting YMCA and staff goals.
Membership & Program Services
  • With Membership leadership and team, provide strong leadership in developing and implementing major membership strategies through a thorough understanding of the value of YMCA membership and the ability to grow/retain members.
  • Develop and direct high-quality member recruitment and engagement strategies that support the Association’s mission, goals, and strategic plan.
  • Foster a climate of innovation, encouraging the development of new programs and supporting staff in the planning, development, and implementation of new program initiatives and activities.
  • With Program leadership, direct overall responsibility for creating and maintaining programs to increase members' enrollment and generate increased program revenue.
  • Monitor program quality and ensure all state and federal laws, regulations, and YMCA policies are followed.
  • Maintain ongoing evaluation of current services, recommends changes, and needs for new services.
  • Identifies and fosters areas for cooperative programming to accomplish YMCA goals. This may include internal or external partners. Works with staff groups to develop and implement programs and services.
Financial Development
  • Responsible for the association’s annual fundraising efforts. This includes the annual Strong Kids campaign and other fundraising activities. Targets to be set and exceeded each year, focusing on improving member giving and major donors.
  • With President/CEO, assist with overall financial development strategies in capital and endowment development.
  • With grant partners, identify and engage in opportunities for grants to grow and support current and future program and operational initiatives.
Marketing
  • With marketing support staff and shared service partner, oversee and provide leadership to marketing initiatives to ensure the community is aware and understands the Y. With partner Y and Salina advertising, media, and marketing partners, monitor data analytics to ensure social media, website, and other marketing strategies exceed our goals and have a consistent and welcoming message and a positive return on investment.
  • Serve as the Y-USA Branding Liaison and ensure Y-USA branding is followed.
Facility & IT
  • Provide direct oversite to facility maintenance and project management. With President/CEO, collaborate on property development and major construction projects.
  • Work with vendors for quotes, ensuring that communication, procedures, and guidelines are met.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness, and structural integrity of the Y and provide direction and assistance to the leadership in these areas.
  • Serve as the Y liaison to KWU Plant Department that oversees the handyman, providing Y guidance and oversite on day-to-day work orders and facility maintenance needs.
  • With the President/CEO, establish and direct an annual plan to address facility repairs, renovations, upkeep, and equipment needs through a comprehensive Association capital assessment and reinvestment plan. This involves creating processes and systems to steward sustainability better.
  • Support and direct the staff member that oversees the janitorial department to ensure a clean and safe facility.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure risk management, safety protocols, and child abuse prevention strategies are implemented and followed in all areas of responsibility.
  • Serve as YMCA liaison for IT contracted partner to ensure the IT needs of the YMCA are met.
General
  • links with businesses, organizations, local government agencies, groups, and individuals within the community that could collaborate and support the Y.
  • Troubleshoot/resolve issues and challenges in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ensure that all policies of the organization are implemented, including financial, human resources, facility, and membership/program policies.
  • Provide reports to the President/CEO, the Board of Directors, and committees as requested.
  • Provide staff leadership to assigned Committees of the Board of Directors.
  • Represent the YMCA at key community organizations and events to include. Still, not limited to community networking clubs, serve on a board of other nonprofit organizations, or representing the Y in other ways as needed and requested with community partners.
  • Fulfill the duties of the President/CEO in his/her absence and/or any other duties as directed.
  • All other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years, preferably in a non-profit organization, with direct experience leading high-level staff, managing budgets, being innovative, and overseeing multiple areas is required.
  • Proven ability to drive and produce quality results in staff development and teamwork, sales, marketing, budgeting, and fiscal management, program development, financial development, facility management, and conflict resolution.
  • Understanding of financial development strategies with a proven track record of fund and friend-raising.
  • Commitment to the mission and purpose of the YMCA and ability to communicate and motivate others about the YMCA, its mission, and programs.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; positive track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
  • Outstanding and effective communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Proficiency in business-related computer applications.
  • YMCA Multi-Team Leader or Organizational Leader certification preferred. May be obtained while employed.
  • Certifications: CPR/First Aid/AED, within 60 days of hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • This position may involve early morning, evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities. Working for an organization that has approximately 100 operational hours per week, candidates must be willing and able to accommodate the needs of a changing and fluid work schedule.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
  • Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
  • Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
  • Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Work in different temperature environments.
