School-based administrators in the Salt Lake City School District provide valuable leadership to their school and local community. As a school-based administrator, you will engage various stakeholders as you develop a vision, promote excellence in teaching and learning, and strive for cultural competency and equity of educational opportunity. Administrators generally work standard work hours or more, depending on the needs of the school, and receive paid time off based on their assignment.

Purpose
The Director is to provide positive leadership, guidance and direction to create continuous improvement toward equity, excellence and achievement for each student. The director will increase access to a vast array of CTE programs, Concurrent Enrollment (CE) options and Comprehensive Guidance (CG) services. The Director will utilize research-based methodology to strategically plan and coordinate with schools, local businesses and state and federal entities to develop, deploy, train and refine a coordinated and comprehensive CTE, CE and CG programs.

The Director will represent SLCSD and fully participate at USBE CTE meetings and trainings, coordinate CE programming with Salt Lake Community College (and other relevant partners and stakeholders), supervise CTE Coordinators, be a full participant with the Wasatch Front South CTE Consortium and oversee related budgets.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide leadership, inspiration, collaboration and a commitment to equity, excellence and achievement for each student and learning community stakeholders in the areas of CTE, CG, Driver’s Education and CE.
  2. Supervise and evaluate the conduct/performance of all assigned personnel.
  3. Implement policies, procedures and/or processes for providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  4. Facilitate CTE, CE and CG meetings to analyze programming and student data; guide informed practices to achieve increased student access to programs and increase student achievement.
  5. Incorporate culturally competent strategies and culturally responsive, professional communication/engagement strategies with all members of the school community.
  6. Provide leadership and capacity development, development and deployment of professional training in areas of responsibility, including CTE teachers.
  7. Consistently demonstrate excellent critical thinking, decision making and organizational skills.
  8. Provide ethical, courteous and professional educational leadership in employment activities.
  9. Provide leadership, guidance, supervision and direction for all CTE, CE, Driver’s Ed, USBE Comprehensive Guidance Reviews and CTE Pathways and the high school Comprehensive Guidance Counselors, and supervise the high school counselor coordinator.
  10. Represent SLCSD and fully participate at USBE CTE meetings and trainings, be a full participant with the Wasatch Front South CTE Consortium and regularly attend and participate in other meetings in areas of responsibility.
  11. Oversee CTE, Driver’s Ed, Comprehensive Guidance and other related budgets.
  12. Initiate and oversee a comprehensive Strategic Plan for CTE, CE and CG.
  13. Persistently collaborate and communicate with secondary school principals.
  14. Assure that CTE programs and equipment meet industry standards, USBE standards, and safety standards.
  15. Serve as the district liaison with Salt Lake Community College and the Utah Applied Technology College network.
  16. Oversee the Career Technology Center (CTC).
  17. Coordinate with the Director of the Salt Lake Education Foundation to collaborate with the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and business partners in regards to Work-based Learning (WBL).
  18. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
  19. Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or or gathering information required to perform functions.
  20. Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.
  21. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
  22. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  23. Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
  24. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively. Will be required to attend and supervise activities, events, and meetings outside of normal work hours on a regular basis.
  25. Drive to school locations and other job-related sites.
  26. Perform other duties and assignments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Education or related field.
  2. State of Utah Administrative/Supervisory License or an out of state license that is transferrable to Utah.
  3. Three years of administrative experience in a licensed K-12 high school. Administrative high school intern experience will count for up to one year of credit toward three years of experience.
  4. A CTE endorsement.
  5. Professional communication skills including, but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills.

 Preferred Qualifications: (Applicants are screened on these parameters)

  1. CTE area teaching experience and/or experience as a Comprehensive Guidance Counselor.
  2. Experience with Concurrent Enrollment.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of CTE Pathways and certifications.
  4. Experience with federal funding (Perkins) and state funding public education mechanisms.
  5. Ability to provide positive and inspirational leadership/guidance and a collaborative mindset to learning community stakeholders.
  6. Experience supervising/evaluating the conduct/performance of personnel.
  7. Ability to implement policies, procedures and/or processes for providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  8. Incorporate culturally competent strategies and culturally responsive, professional communication/engagement strategies with all members of the school community.
  9. Knowledge of public education budget management in alignment with school needs, following district budget, procurement and accounting policies and procedures with integrity and ethics.
  10. Excellent critical thinking, decision making and organizational skills.
  11. Experience with and/or knowledgeable about high school Comprehensive Guidance (CG) counselor roles.
  12. Experience with Driver’s Ed programs.
  13. Spanish Speaker: speaks, reads, writes and understands spoken Spanish.
