Summer Program Coordinator 

 

Hourly Non-Contract
FTE: .7375 (29/hrs. per week)
Anticipated Start:06/06/2022

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
This position is not benefits eligible
Starting wage: $18.00 per hour

 

Note: Work hours may vary slightly depending on site location and program needs.  Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday.  This is a time-limited position from June 6, 2022 to July 14, 2022. 

 

Purpose Statement

Summer Program Coordinators will work with students in summer programs, supervisising, supporting, mentoring, and monitoring Summer Program Leaders assigned to the location; and ensuring that the Summer Program is implemented and applied in a service oriented, safe, fair, and equitable manner.  

 

This position reports to the building administrator or designee.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
  3. 1 year of job-related experience
  4. Current Utah Department of Health Food Handler’s permit or ability to obtain prior to start date
  5. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze and interpret English written and verbal communications

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associates degree in related field
  2. Work experience in a community program environment supporting multiple programs and services
  3. Experience providing age appropriate activities, safety practices and procedures, and understanding of the stages of child development
  4. Spanish language or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak and understand 

 

Essential Functions

  1. Communicate with parents and students to ensure a thorough understanding of the after school program
  2. Coordinate financial activities (e.g. budget monitoring, fee collection, etc.) to accurately document participant fee payment(s) and adherence to accounting procedures and grant requirements
  3. Coordinate educational opportunities within grant parameters and budget (e.g. tutoring, homework completion, etc.) to promote student achievement, school attendance, and involving students in promoting positive academic outcomes
  4. Coordinate student programs within grant parameters and budget (e.g. University of Utah, America Reads Program, Utah Nordic Alliance winter activities, parent volunteers, etc.) to effectively engage students in safe and age-appropriate activities during after school programs
  5. Lead and direct clubs in the after school program
  6. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements in an efficient and effective manner
  7. Maintain a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. program participation rolls, registration materials, fee accounting, etc.) to provide an up-to-date reference
  8. Manage inter-student conflicts that may arise in the course of the program and involve supervisor as concerns may escalate
  9. Mentor appropriate social skills that will promote positive and safe learning environments
  10. Orient approved volunteers to successfully accomplish assigned functions of the programs
  11. Prepare a wide variety of written materials (e.g. correspondence, agenda, billings, calendars, memos, letters, bulletins, reports, etc.) to accurately document activities, provide written reference and/or convey information.  This responsibility requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using data-based software
  12. Process a wide variety of documents and materials to create records and disseminate information to appropriate parties
  13. Provide training to group leaders and volunteers to enhance the effectiveness of programs
  14. Provide grade reports on a regular schedule to encourage involvement and feedback
  15. Respond to a wide variety of inquiries from callers and visitors to provide allowed information, referrals and/or direction
  16. Responsible for the safety and security of all students in the program at the identified location (e.g. attendance, drop-off and pick-up of students, required CPR training, etc.) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for students
  17. Schedule a wide variety of activities that are on and off-site (e.g. meetings, staff coverage, facilities usage, volunteers, Utah Nordic Alliance winter activities, etc.) to assist in meeting program needs and ensuring the efficient utilization of personnel, equipment and facilities
  18. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
  19. Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or or gathering information required to perform functions.
  20. Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization n strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.
  21. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the
  22. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  23. Speak, read, write, analyze, understand and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
  24. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  25. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  26. Other duties as assigned.

 

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 70% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
