Samaritan’s Women and Children Center at Samaritan offers the only Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit—and the highest level of care for a newborn—in Northern New York. Our team of highly trained specialists have cared for and delivered 1,600 babies on average each year. With our newly added private rooms, reserved parking and dedicated entrance for mothers, we’re making receiving care more comfortable than ever before.

Job Summary:

• Certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) required or obtained within 6 months of hire

• 2 years of IBCLC in either outpatient or inpatient setting providing breastfeeding assessment, consultation, and information to mothers, or current CLC with minimum of 2 years in OB field working with breastfeeding moms.

• RN required (BSN preferred)

• BLS required

• Current NYS RN License required

• Qualified Lactation Educator will assume the responsibility for the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive lactation program that meets all regulatory requirements that reflects best practice, which includes, but is not limited to, assuring adherence to policies and procedures; providing staff, provider, and community education on a regular basis; and evaluating staff competencies surrounding breastfeeding.

• This individual will work collaboratively with other patient care team members including the patient and her family to achieve optimal patient outcomes and ensure that sound theoretical and technical criteria are established for all programs. Is actively involved in the initial orientation of new employees and the continuing competency-based credentialing of staff.
